I think his input his good, but at times he seems to have trouble controlling his voice level..it reminds me of that one SNL skit with Will Ferrell

I couldn't believe the praise being heaped on this guy after week 1. I watched his game today and it was brutal. Like a hyperactive kid in a candy store.

I thought he was pretty good. He was willing to make statements which were on point and not meal-mouthed. Most announcers seem to take the safe route. His voice is a bit unsteady but his thoughts were solid. I think he will be very good once he gets used to it.

Agree -- a couple of easily fixable problems:
1) During the play Romo shouts "He's Open!", but our TV is only showing the pocket -- no downfield receivers. We don't know who is open or how open they are. That doesn't play very well.
2) He wants to see specific things replayed so he can comment on them... that's all well and good, but there's still a football game going on and they aren't pausing until you can see the replay you wanted.

I find him very insightful -- that is a real asset that nobody else has on any of the networks. He's telling you why things are happening; a huge plus. I think after a year or so of doing this, he could turn into a top shelf commentator.

I pretty much agree with newper and zippy. He's really good, and he doesn't really even know what he's doing yet. He's obviously a little too excitable but I think a lot of that comes from still wanting to play and still being competitive when surrounded by football.

I was skeptical going in but this is how I feel about it. I guess I never spent much time listening to him talk. He should start smoking a pack of
cigarettes a day and get that Michael J Fox voice roughed up a bit.

I like him. He is way excitable, et al but he's smarter than the average bear they put in the booth as a color guy.

Tonight was the first time that I have heard him. I don't see what the hoopla is about. It's his first year, so I will cut him some slack, but the talk of him being some revolutionary analyst was premature.

I thought he was good. Good first-guessing, decent sense of humor (made fun of Jim Nantz having a place at Pebble Beach), and I learned stuff the way he dissected the 2-minute drive.

For a month, he's pretty reasonable.

I don't think he got anything wrong. He knew what the plays were before it happened.

Let's not argue semantics. I have heard a lot of glowing reviews. Spiegel and Parkins were throwing bouquets in his direction.

The guy doesn't know how to use well/good properly. That's a problem.

As they signed off, Romo said, "As long as Rodgers is behind center, they will be in the mix all year long".

That is Elmhurst Steve analysis right there.

He says some dumb cliches and he's still learning. His insight is extraordinary compared to his peers. I agree with you that some of the hyperbole is ridiculous(there's already articles saying he's the best football announcer ever), but I don't see any reason to think he will be anything other than very good.

My comments are directed more for the people throwing the bouquets, than Romo himself.

Awful. Talks too much. His predicting plays drives me crazy. Just tell me why the play worked or why it did not afterwards.

What I heard during Bengals-Packers was pretty good. He's an improvement over Phil Simms, and that's what counts.

Using "good" for "well" is troubling as a professional word-usin' dude, but now that Football Analyst has practically become a dialect unto itself made up almost entirely of try-hard bugbears ("football" for "ball" at all times), there's something almost quaint about the everyday ignorance of "he ran good."

Raiders have the ball on 4th down with 0:04 left in the half. Romo, "predicted" that Carr would run around for a couple seconds, and throw one out of bounds to end the half. This seems obvious to me, but Nantz threw more bouquets in Romo's direction. "And once again, you are stealing signals. Well done, my friend".

Holy fucking shit.
