Florio is on with Speigel and Parkins and said if the NFL goes too far in legislating out the physicality of the game, get ready for an alternate old-school football league to appear and there will be players signing up to play for them.

It's about time for a reboot of the XFL.

That is a horrible take. Guys are not going to willfully sign up for an "old school" league like that as their first choice. This "alternate league" would be like all the other secondary leagues that pop-up and then go bankrupt within 2-3 seasons. (XFL, UFL, Arena, etc.)

All the talent will remain in the NFL, and this new league would be rookie washouts, and old has-beens.

Unless they are players who can't get on an NFL roster, I don't know how many would sign up for that league. It won't be able to pay as much as the NFL and there will be greater risk of injury. Doesn't sound like a great deal if you can get the exact opposite of that.

Eh I think most of the players just want to be able to play. At this point if you're even in the league to begin with you don't give a fuck about your health. The NFL legislates the physicality so strictly because it's about optics,.

I once had a free agent tryout with the Chicago Blitz of the USFL.*

* #TRUTH-no big deal, your mother could have shown up on a Saturday morning at Soldier Field. It was a publicity stunt but hundreds of mostly young African American applicants showed up. We lined up for some exercises and I felt like Burt Reynolds in the Longest Yard. I knew I couldn't make a JUCO team but it was fun to say I had the experience.

I would watch a league that played with no helmets and limited pads with the old style football rules. People are not going to aim with their head when they have no protection. No one getting paralyzed in rugby.

May 9, 2017: Coaches, teammates, family and friends are rallying around a varsity rugby player from Cal who was paralyzed from the chest down when he was injured during the Bears’ national championship victory over the weekend.

I always laugh at the dopes who say football should go back to using the leather helmet. We might as well round these idiots up and throw them off a bridge.

After I typed this, I figured some asshole would look up the last time someone was paralyzed playing rugby.

In rugby it is spinal injuries from scrums that are the most dangerous (110 rugby players in Britain have been paralysed by playing the game)

If they start in the fall, to go directly against the NFL, where are they gonna get the stadiums? Are they gonna go against college on Saturdays?

No. This can't happen. Florio is an idiot.

This can work in the Spring. It failed with the XFL. But Pro football can work this way if they have a better model then the XFL. Won't be the NFL. But it could be bigger then the NHL.
