I'd rather have a handful of other coaches turned commentators before Gruden, including guys like Mariucci and Cowher but I wouldn't want any of them. It's hard to return from that cushy lifestyle.

#Titans GM Jon Robinson and CEO Steve Underwood told coach Mike Mularkey before the game and told him they were extended him and he was their guy. They said they'd get it done after the game. Now this.

Fuck the Titans.

I see why they fired him..the development of Mariotta has gone south(which is pretty unacceptable with an offensive minded head coach)..they definelty could have handled it better tough...

McDaniels to Tennessee. I'd almost guarantee it, the fit is too natural.

Imagine him with Mariota, Corey Davis, Delanie Walker, the Henry/Murray combo and that offensive line...that team could be ridiculously high scoring. Titans made the right move here. There is a clear upgrade available.

Word is Mularkey wouldn't fire his OC so they agreed to part ways. What an idiot.

Yeah, the early "shock" tweets portray the Titans as bad guys..but really I don't have a problem with what they did reading more in depth

Quote:
Filed to ESPN: the Titans and head coach Mike Mularkey have mutually agreed to part ways, according to a league source.

— Field Yates (@FieldYates) January 15, 2018

Quote:
The Titans released this statement regarding the firing:

More from Amy Adams Strunk on Mularkey:

“We did discuss extending his future with our team over the past week, but in those discussions about the direction of the team, it became evident that we saw different paths to achieve greater success.”

You can't be an offensive minded head coach, have your young QB regress and expect to keep your job.

I get why they "mutually parted" Mularkey, but I'd bet the farm this will go like the Bears firing Lovie. A good team, the players love the old coach, and you don't just magically get a better new coach, they'll be decent next year and then fall off a cliff.

Mularkey isn't Lovie. They never went to a Super Bowl or even won that putrid division. He wasn't there that long either.

That's right, KD. Philadelphia is an excellent, excellent football team. But the Vikings have a great football team too. My prediction is that whoever puts the ball into the end zone most will probably win tonight's football game.

McDaniels is a virtual lock to be Colts next head coach. Patricia going to Detroit. Shurmur heading to NYG. Leaves AZ/TEN needing HCs...

SI was reporting an extension for at least three hours after that NFL Net reported him as fired.

My wife won a week long stay at rustic cabin in the U.P. in a silent auction a couple years back. I had to go to Iron Mountain for a week. It was primitive. Only three TV channels and very limited cell service. Anyway, I didn't realize that Tom Izzo and Steve Mariucci were the kings of Iron Mountain, Michigan. There are signs recognizing them all over. I guess they dominated all the youth sports there in their time. Side note: I also didn't realize how Italian that part of the U.P. was.

My aunt lived up there. I remember visiting as a kid and feeling it was so primitive back then. She passed a few years back and as I drove north of Green Bay the radio stations disappeared and it was as I remembered it. Part of me really liked it and appreciated more than 10 year old me did. The weddings up there were something.
