I love these team names.

All of 'em are badass and have an edge. Kinda takes u back to the original XFL, which was meant to have a bullying and wrestling flavor.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/274 ... ight-teams

***************************

The XFL revealed the names and logos for its eight teams Wednesday, a long-awaited step toward its February 2020 debut.

The names will be:

Dallas Renegades

Houston Roughnecks

Los Angeles Wildcats

New York Guardians

St. Louis BattleHawks

Seattle Dragons

Tampa Bay Vipers

Washington Defenders

The XFL has spent the past two years determining team locations, signing stadium agreements and hiring head coaches. Its teams will play in a combination of NFL, MLB and MLS facilities. The league office has sent hundreds of draft pool invitations to prospective players and last month announced its first signing: veteran quarterback Landry Jones.

"We're anxiously awaiting the Labor Day cuts that will take place where there will be another group of players available,'' commissioner Oliver Luck said. "Things have gone as well as expected.''

Next up will be finalizing and publicizing a rulebook that the league says will offer a reimagined game of football, including unique extra points, a modified setup for overtime and a shorter play clock to accelerate game tempo.

A draft is scheduled for October, followed by a minicamp in December and training camp in January 2020.

So... why is this even happening? Everybody knows it is going to fail. Everyone.
Maybe one of our more finance knowledgeable guys can help me here, because this has the feeling of a way of creating losses to avoid taxes or something. Why else would this happen?
After the hilariously predictable failure of the AFL earlier this year and the quick death of the original XFL, why would anyone expect that the xfl will do anything other than fail?
Its built on two flawed premises. First is that these is a desire for more football after the super bowl. Maybe for a few weeks, sure we miss it. But that's about it. Second is that any football is better than no football. Yeah we've proved that poorly played football doesn't move meters and guys who cant make nfl rosters or practice rosters are not compelling television.

The AAF was succeeding. It just didn't have the financial backing needed and was hoping for the NFL to save it. The XFL has the money needed to try it for real.

Not as good as the original names which were all criminal allusions or mental illnesses.

I think there is a window of opportunity to capture football fans in May to mid July.

Gambling and daily fantasy.

With more states allowing sports books, they will pick up viewers looking for Dallas-Tampa to come in under 42.5

This will fail miserably just like every other secondary football league in my lifetime.

I don't know whether the Titans are going to be suing to enforce the trademark on its Oilers logo but that roughneck logo is very close to infringing.

I wish I had enough money to blow it all on spring-league football in San Antonio and Memphis. Everyone thinks they're gonna be the one to finally do it.

They need gimmicks to make this work like painting circles in the endzone where if you catch a TD there, it is worth 10 points. Each sack not only counts as a sack, but you get a point.

1. Abolish placekicking and goal posts. Give teams the choice of a 2 point conversion from the 2, a 3 point conversion from the 15, or 0 points but the opposing team gets the ball on their 5 instead of their 25.

2. Make all punts that travel 40+ yards beyond the line of scrimmage live balls the way a kickoff is today. Call it the Randall Cunningham rule, and make defensive coordinators think about if they have to keep a single high free safety in case the QB punts out of the shotgun.

Why do you always come up with the dumbest rule suggestions?

The Roughnecks logo won't make it to Opening Day without the NFL suing over ripping off the Houston Oilers.

I think they got the inspiration for the St. Louis logo from the tattoo of some dumbass in O'Fallon. "yeah dude an i unno it's like fight or flight, right, y'know? an 's'like yeah man i'm both. I'm both at once an' shit."

They and the Dallas Renegades are the best ones, IMO.

"BattleHawks"...woof, that's bad.

The DC Defenders sounds and looks like a soccer team. I hope they fold first.

In general, because I was a fan of Sodbuster Kenny Jay.

Specifically, I had watched a few minutes of Big3 earlier in the day and found how they implemented "dumb" rule changes to liven up a game full of old men interesting.
