10 minutes overtime?

no wonder we're getting so many ties!

this is bullshit.

teams hardly have a chance to score with so little time.

why isnt it 15 minutes? whose dumbfuck idea was it to shorten the OT?

I mean, i like ties once in a while, but i like em as a novelty, not as a regular thing.

Why dont they quit messing with the fundamentals of the game?!

It's like shortening baseball to 8 innings instead of 9. Just stop fucking with the game!!!

Agreed. It's a horrendous decision.

Some of these games are getting harder and harder to watch with all the new rules and officiating. Even the replays most times leave your head scratching with the explanation of the rules by the refs or the ex NFL ref experts. The 10 minute OT makes no sense and them putting a 2 minute warning for 8 minutes of game play for 2 teams time of possession is ridiculous.

So far the Bears haven't been hurt by some of this nonsense but I see a questionable call, or bullshit penalty factoring into a game in the near future. Tomlin was right when he said that these rules and officiating are losing people their jobs and it's not the refs or NFL execs losing them.

They said they were going to take it easy on the roughing the passer shit and there were still a bunch of horrible calls this week.

I think it was in the Tenn/Buffalo game. A defender wraps up Mariota but doesn’t take him to the ground (presumably because he doesn’t wait a roughing the passer call). Mariotta just takes a step back and continues the play. It was a joke. The announcers couldn’t believe it.

Edit, found it.

this season so far has had a lot of really bad games, and the way the officiating is going, is just doing more damage. i would hate to play defense this year on any team. even if you have a good defense, you're sometimes one bad call away from giving a game away. the refs have way too much power over these games.

and i agree, the OT stuff sucks.

If your kicker misses MANY field goals in a game, then you deserve to play OT and possibly end in a tie.

Crazy, right? Did you see the other rule change that they added wild card playoff spots too? No more is it just the division winners in the playoffs!

Just do it like hockey. 3 on 3 in OT and have a field goal shootout.

ridiculous. Miami's first drive in OT took up damn near the entire OT.

Needs to go back to 15 min.

I'm almost ready to go to the college system. Way more exciting with it ending in a winner and loser.

Make a tie be a loss for both teams. Either you win, or you "did not win." That'll open things up in a damn hurry.

Do you think he knows about the merger? I would hate to explain why a rematch of Super Bowl III won't happen in the Super Bowl.

More proof that 10 min OT is dumb.

I agree. 15 minutes was perfect. Why they changed it is beyond me. I guess it was a way of the owners saying they gave something to the players in the last CBA. Less time playing. So the owners can fool them into them taking less money. Players are stupid in that they take stuff like this as opposed to more money. Same with them taking less practices in pads in training camp and in season.

I don't even like the first score component. Play the full 15 minutes. Fuck playing for a field goal.

i agree. 15 minutes, 3 time outs. both teams get a chance to score.

10 minutes is ridiculous. the rams/49ers game had a very real possibility of a tie and that's inexcusable.
