I don't understand that at all, so J.G. was going to make 27ish mill this year and be a UFA at season end.. now he will make 7 million thus year and be UFA at seasons end. Maybe he hits 16 million if he starts most of the games with incentives..

The season starts in 10 days, S.F. was stuck with him and needed him as a backup..


They needed each other. I suspect he isn't completely healthy. He probably wasn't going to get a similar contract after clearing waivers. The 49ers needed a backup quarterback and didn't want to take the cap hit by retaining him at $27M.
