Perhaps the Packers will pick him up to fortify their run to yet another disappointing playoff loss.

By the same evaluation metrics, you could argue Eberflus should be fired too

That has to be one of the worse job openings in a very long time.

Really embarrassing to be fired in your first year. Even more so to be cut two to three weeks before black Monday.

If they find the equivalent of Purdy in the draft they could be fine. Javonte Williams is back next year plus they have Jeudy and Sutton. They have pieces. Wilson can't be the starter.

I'd have a nice goodbye message to Wilson as I was cleaning out my desk.

Hackett hired an assistant coach to study what the desk is used for.

Can you have a $50M a year backup for the next 2 seasons?

Obviously he's dead weight whether he plays or not. Just gotta shove him to the side once/if you find a better option at QB. He shouldn't start just because of his salary cap figure.

What other option is there? Stuck with him for 3 years. Have to draft his replacement this year.

They probably didn't want those contracts in return. That's a lot to offer for a quarterback over 30 not named Brady or Rodgers.

I guess we'll never know the full offer. I just reread the cost for Wilson. Ignoring players for now. First and second round picks in 2022. First and second round picks for 2023. A 5th rounder somewhere in there I think. Not a bad haul. Would love to compare it to Pace's offer if we knew the full one.

We know Pace was offering 3 first round picks. I heard Roquan was included and now Mack and Hicks.

I think the Browns trade may be worse than the Broncos

I really wanted them to trade for Russ. I’d have Baghdad Bob’d my way through whatever shit performance Russ put up had Pace been successful.

Rare case of me being wrong.

I've claimed he was an overrated system quarterback for about a decade on here. I'm glad he was nice enough to stop the beating that I was taking.

Good, anyone who sends out 5 drafts picks, including two 1st round and two 2nd round picks + 3 players for a clearly declining 34 year old Russell Wilson Athletic Gear and then signs RWAC to a 5 year / 50 mil a year extension ($160 mil fully guaranteed) with 2 seasons left on his current deal and hires a first time HC who as OC at his previous jobs didn't even have primary play calling responsibility should be fired!

Hard to believe that Bronco ownership wants to keep Paton after that trade, and his hiring of Hackett.

How much harder do you have to work to show your bosses that you are clueless?

I think Paton will be gone by March 1. They will use the excuse that the new coach wouldn't take the job otherwise. But really, he's just marking time in case a Sean Payton is crazy enough to take the coaching job and wants his own GM. Otherwise they have to hire a GM first and then search for the coach.

I'm not someone that usually wants guys fired ASAP, but that Pace thing is exhibit A in why you do it. Pace trying to save his ass by trading for a washed Russ, 3 firsts, and good players would have killed the Bears for at least 5 years.

Agreed! He would have been giving the fans what they wanted, though. It's another reason why a GM/coach shouldn't listen to the opinion of fans unless he wants to sit with them.

I think that's right for football--especially when you're talking about a Payton level HC. Hire the coach and then have the coach providing input on hiring the GM. Baseball you always hire GM and then manager, front office rules the roost in baseball.

I've heard some commentators, including Florio, saying things like "oh, those walmart heirs will not brook any incompetence, they'll run things the right way". So far they've been party to nothing but incompetence w/r/t the Broncos; if Sam ran his stores the way his kids are ruining the Broncos, we wouldn't know his name. It's your money, kids, don't let the football guys snow you into blowing it on washed up QB's and AA-Ron-bait-fail head coaches.

seems like a chronic problem when the filthy rich buy into a pro sports franchise the first time--they go balls-out, no expenses spared out the gate, before they know what's what, and often end up making costly mistakes. And then they become gun-shy about spending after that.

They've owned the team for 10 months, let's see what they do over the next few seasons. They already cut bait on a HC way in over his head..Mccaskeys would never do that to a first year coach..so they already prove they aren't cheap and accept incompetence.

They want the head coach to report to ownership. That's interesting.
