I'm saying the collusion happened in the past few years. Barry Sanders wouldn't be a top 10 pick today.

The game has changed

No, a few running backs who got "big" deals got injured or didn't live up to the contracts. That scared teams away from investing in elite backs.

It's a passing league now, defenses have been neutered. 95% of the teams use a 2 back system.

No, it's because when those star RBs do get hurt, the running game doesnt drop off. Foreman comes in for an injured Henry a couple years ago, no drop off. D'ernest Johnson comes in for Chubb, no drop off. Panthers trade away CMC, no drop off with Foreman and Hubbard.

NFL teams are slowly realizing the skill of an RB is the least important factor in having a good running game.

It took that dumb hillbilly JJ 2 years to realize Pollard > Zeke.

Pollard isn't a workhorse. Jones and the Cowboys community love Zeke. They tried to keep him this offseason.

Yep, look at the Bears. They led the league in rushing due to Fields. If you take him out though it still gets interesting:

Total rushing yards: 3014 (1st)
Remove Fields: 1871
Add median QB rushing yards: 300
Total adjusted rush yards: 2171 (10th-11th)

So even with mediocre RBs and no passing game, the Bears would finish roughly 10th in the league in rushing.

Before Forrest Fields showed up, Herbert was getting 6 yards a carry. They would have been higher than 10th without Fields. They were leading the league in rushing before he found his legs.

Seems like a dubious argument since Fields' explosiveness in the run game impacted how defenders played the Bears.
