The issue was the same we were talking about up thread when Andy Reid went for it with a lead and didn't get the 4th down conversion. Going for it and not making it gives the opponent in a playoff game where you're winning with relative ease a much needed boost and momentum changer--and the boost for the opponent in stopping you on 4th down and getting the ball back > what you get going for it and making it in those situations today.

It's the playoffs, one and done. You're not playing the odds over a 17 game season with 3 or 4 dozen or more 4th down decisions.

kick the FG when you're winning like Chiefs/Lions were and you keep the momentum on your side and tack on some points.

go for it and don't get it, and that team that's been getting beat all game suddenly has a fulcrum point from which to launch a comeback--which Ravens tried and failed due to turnovers. But that's exactly what SF did after the TO-on-downs in the 3rd: they stopped Detroit, got a TD and then Detroit got rattled and couldn't even complete a simple hand-off to start off a drive. It all keyed off the initial failed 4th down attempt.

If you go for it and get it, what do you get? Nothing. Well, you get to keep the ball. But odds are you're going to end up with 3 points anyhow. If it's 4th and goal from the 1, yeah, go for it and you get a TD or get stopped. But out at the 28 or 30 yard line? You make that 4th down conversion instead of taking the 3, congratulations: you're mostly likely going to end up scoring 3 points anyhow.

It's situational. Playoffs are different. Assume that's a coach's job to take the temperature of the situation and adjust accordingly--not to just blindly follow analytics but make decisions that keep his team's momentum going while keeping a foot on the neck of the opponent.

If you can't convey it in 2 sentences or less, is it really that important?

I'm sick of the aggression gimmick. His CTE must have hit him mid-game as he had no problem taking a FG at the end of the first half.

he DID have a problem taking the FG at the end of the half. it pained him to kick that FG. he spent a lot of time trying to talk himself in to going for it. that was captured on tv i thought and by sideline reporter after half was over

He is taking quite the gamble. If the Lions offense goes to shit next year he may not have the same opportunities.

There is a former player saying similar stuff about vrabel on local radio. If you Google it I'm sure you'll find it. He basically says Vrabel was a self promoter among other things and it rubbed players the wrong way.

I was under the impression that players loved him, I know Taylor Lewan was a big fan, Will Compton also, but something isn’t right.

Washington probably pulled the offer. There’s no way Johnson passes up that situation if available.

Not sure yet, but other than Stokes I am good with the other 2 so far. Room to improve yes. What shitty player will your Bears team draft?

Maybe Keyshawn can teach a CTU classroom since a certain teacher is on here 24/7 spewing his anti Semitic garbage

Why not? I suspect he's hoping for a better landing spot next year. He's got to know that you're fired if your QB sucks and maybe he didn't want to take a chance with a rookie QB in Washington and/or Howell. The QB situation in Seattle is not attractive either. Perhaps Reid retires next year, or buffalo wants to move on from McDermott.

So Jerry isn’t going to extend Dak either, interesting but I agree with it.

Yeah I get betting on yourself, but I don’t think he’ll ever be hotter than he is now. Plus it’s pretty weak to turn down a HC job. He spends time interviewing for jobs he’s not going to take in the lead up to the most important games of his life when he could have been diagramming better 4th down plays than runs with WRs lead blocking. Seems mentally soft, definitely not the kneecap biting mentality he needs to have to succeed in Detroit.

I go the other way - you don't want to marry a T.rubisky, see T.rubisky fail, then be perceived as the guy who sucked because your QB didn't get it done. Harbaugh did it right because he married the anti Tr.ubisky. I hope/suspect Johnson is doing the same.

Vrabel possibly waiting for the KC or Dallas jobs. Andy Reid wins his 3rd SB, does he Bill Walsh it and leave rings on the table? For another coach to happen along and pick up in his place.

Mahomes cap hit jumps from $37 mil to $57 mil for 2024 season.

Helped get us to the playoffs but being a Bears fan I know you don’t understand that.
