Actively is the key word. There was no reason for them to go out and get Carr except for the (now looking even more real) conspiracy theory of turning the Saints into the Raiders. You already had a QB that was either at his level or slightly +/- but still didn’t have to spend money to find out. Now you’re stuck with a bad QB who no one else will want.

This is Steve Walsh all over again, just in a different era. He even wears the same number.

McAfee was talking about Jon Gruden joining the Saints as OC, wow

This thread is depressing as a Steelers fan. They are always "in the hunt", but with Pickett and/or Rudolph as QB next year, there is no chance of anything beyond what happened this year. Maybe, with a favorable matchup/something fluky happening, they win a single playoff game.

Cowboys and Prescott is interesting also, cap number in his final year is $59.5, do they want to extend him or not?

Why not. He's the Kirk Cousins of the NFC East.

Trade a fortune to get into the top 5 or hope the new chargers coach doesn't like Herbert and wants to dump him (just like Josh McDaniel did with Cutler in Denver). Or just trade Tomlin and your entire draft to LA for Herbert.

Sure, I was just highlighting that it is pretty escapable compared to some. He did not truly get a 4-year $160 million fully guaranteed albatross contract, he likely is on his way out of town after next year.

So it only hurts for 3 years and not 4.

I get the feeling Jerry doesn’t care anymore, he ain’t living forever and will try do whatever it takes to get one more.

If the Bears traded the #1 pick for a QB straight up, who could they get?

Many analysts have called Caleb the best QB prospect since Luck, so I think it's fairly accurate. 3-4 years of him on a cheap contract is huge.

I do not see that at all but I don’t claim to be any guru. Also, I also understand football has changed a lot from when I tend to evaluate certain things but I sure would have liked to have seen him make plays on time thru the offense more.

Everyone outside of the "we're set" category. Maybe SF makes an exception and gives you Purdy for Caleb.

Quote:
Teams being dragged backwards by their QB and in need of immediate upgrades:

NYG
Raiders
Chicago
NYJ
Pittsburgh
Denver
Atlanta
New England

Wait and see mode:
Tennessee
Indiana
Carolina
Jacksonville
Washington
GB
Cleveland

We're fine for now but will at some point need to make a move

TB
Rams
Minnesota
Dallas
Arizona
Miami
Detroit
NO
Seattle

We're set
Houston
KC
Buffalo
Baltimore
Philly
SD
Cincy
SF

Nobody knows. Say it with confidence and you can get people to believe you. Add jargon and the score will hire you as an expert

Trade a first for fields. It isn’t a very high pick, he’s a low cost starter and I think he’d ball out with all that talent that can get down field

What is the plan to get him to throw to open receivers

It wouldn’t have hurt at all if they had taken my advice and franchised him.

I'm not even a big fan of Fields, but if "Fields to the Steelers for their 2nd round pick" was announced, I'd be more excited than I am now. Steelers can throw in (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky to sweeten the deal.....

So who wants to tell this guy the ugly truth about Mason Pickett, Mitch Fields, and Justin T.rubisky?

Penix could get picked in the 2nd and be starting week 1.

The Steelers better invest in a MUCH better offensive line--in addition to a hyperbaric chamber---if they're going to do that.

I really like certain aspects of Penix's game, but the guy seems more brittle than Joe Biden.

No.

If he thought that he got hit hard in the CFB, then his awakening will be beyond rude when, or if he starts an NFL game.

Yeah.. TL has shown a lot, his trajectory is on pace for a top 5 guy.. only a genius would talk about drafting his replacement
