Mayfield is clearly a tier above Fields though, if not two tiers. Mayfield is what we thought Derek Carr was like 3-4 years ago - solidly above average at best, average at worst.

That's just the market though. It doesn't make sense to me to go with a below replacement level player (Fields) when you can just get the replacement level guy in the flesh, with statistical proof that he can actually play above replacement level as well at times. If you don't want to pay him that money then for me just grab a rookie QB - better for the cap and you don't get stick with the below replacement level guy.

I like Mayfield, but he was playing for his career this season. Be surprising if Baker ever matches or even approaches his production this season again (career bests in comp%, passing yds, pass att, TDs, TD-INT rate etc).

This wasn't a randomly good year for Baker, he had arguably a slightly better season in 2020. That's reflected in his QBR which was higher back then, and though he passed for less yards due to lower attempts back then, at a per game level he was throwing for more yards per attempt ever so slightly. My point is we've seen this Baker before.
