He's nearing Jeff Fisher territory.

jeff fisher is pretty inexcusable; payton at least has a super bowl ring.

i still think he needs a change of scenery. though i don't think he'll have much more success as a head coach in the NFL.

the team itself is a dumpster fire. but they just won't let go of the "legacy".

i think i have to relish yesterday's win as it's probably the only one that has felt *this good* in a long time. why payton can't gear up like this for every game still aggravates me. he so wanted revenge on Old Gregg, which he did fine. Why can't he pretend every team he goes up against includes this guy on their staff?

Once again, like 07, 08 and 11, they have this dominant offense that has nowhere to go.

so it looks like payton's going to clinch another 7-9 record. he can't seem to figure out how to win when it matters anymore.

by all accounts, a decent draft for the saints. but they just seem to be going nowhere. perpetually in the .500 range of 7-9 to 9-7, until brees hangs it up. i'd love to see one more surge this year, and go for broke...they definitely have the talent on offense. but defensively and special teams-wise, they are still remedial. maybe the additions they made on defense can work. but history says otherwise.

Well by now the answer to the title's question is probably no, but it was a good run.

But they let pets into the stadium I think. That should be enough to propel them into 31st place.

To be fair, Bradford is a Top 5 QB and Diggs and Thielen are the best chocolate / vanilla combo in the league.

I know you are trolling but...

We did the Bradford thing last year and that's not even the best chocolate/vanilla combo in the division.

I think Payton's game plan sucked. Peterson ripped off a 9-yard carry on the first play of the game and then disappeared.

I was surprised looking at his game stats.

Peterson as a backup is not going to work. Even the announcers were recognizing this and it is only Week 1.

If I were the Saints, I'd be looking to move him to the Cardinals.

And I'm sending Brees to the clueless Texans. Then muzzling the jackass owner and hiring a real front office & coaching staff.

it's not frustrating, it's not "fun bad", it's just listless. this team plays the same script each time: start hot on march down field, settle for field goal; stop on 1st down but give up huge 3rd down play, give up touchdown. keep flopping around like a dead fish until game is out of reach, go for garbage points. then, do the stupid onside kick try. fail, and lose. then shrug shoulders, say you're better than this, and we'll get better and work it out, it's only one game.

rinse, and repeat.

i wanted brees to have one more meaningful season here; but it's clear that he's not going to, and his contract situation isn't going to allow them to have their cake and eat it too. he still has something left, but the saints do not.

my dad's a pretty good prognosticator too...

Image

context was Tirico erroneously saying that the '91 Falcons (of which there's a special on) were beat by the division winner Saints in the playoffs. that's false. the Saints didn't win a playoff game until the 2001 game against the Rams at home. The Saints were the #3 seed in 1991 and lost to the #6 Falcons 27-20. get it right, Tirico.
