In Sam's defense, his people put the kibosh on the Oprah reality show pretty damn quick, but that it even started in the first place was a huge misstep. That never should have made it out of the conference room.

That Mizzou defense was supposedly loaded but were a sieve in the second half of the year. That was troubling to me for both Sam and Kony. Then, Sam's measurable were horrible at the Combine. The only thing he had left was to be drafted on name.

He played well in the preseason though. You could argue that he needed to get stronger but his lack of strength isn't the reason why he isn't in the NFL.

lack of acceptable size/speed ratio is why he is not playing in the nfl

Compare Sam to Shea Mc Clellin or Maybin from a couple of years ago. They have the same problem for slightly different reasons. However, as bad as those two guys are, their measurable are head and shoulders above those of Sam.

You have to be unique in some way to cut it in the NFL. Sam has no unique qualities about him

Being able to jump out of a pool is nice but I thought being able to produce was more important. You are making an argument about why he shouldn't have been draft. They drafted the kid and he produced at a high level. That isn't good enough for a practice squad?

True. Somewhere right now no talent clowns like Manti Te'o & Shea McClellin are wondering when their times are up. And guys like Stephen Paea are glad they weigh 310-320.

IIRC the last few games at Mizzou he was getting double teamed & they were running away from his side of the ball. While he did do well on the stat sheets in this preseason most of his tackles/sacks were effort plays made 4-6 seconds after the ball was snapped. He certainly isn't a guy always beating his man, but I don't really recall see him getting wiped out either. You can't tell me that a team without decent line/linebacker play can't use him.

He's a better NFL player than probably 20-30% of defensive players on active rosters now imo, and certainly more worthy of a position than say some guy like Patrick Mannelly.

This guy was projected as a 1st rounder a couple months before the draft, no?

And now he can't make a practice squad?

Something smells fishy.

You might want to wait until you see the guy the Bears have long snapping this year before you say that.

I don't know that I ever saw him as a 1st rounder, I saw middle rounds but then he went to the combine and had awful numbers.

Name and sexual orientation. He was getting drafted, no matter what.

Austen Lane is wondering the same thing. We could name a list a mile long of the pre season game day warriors who got cut from the Bears over the years. Coaches are looking at something different than we are. They also see about 10x more of the player in camp and practice.

We are looking at the same fact from two different perspectives. You see the dogs on practice squads and wonder how he isn't among them. I see the dogs on practice squads and wonder how bad he had to be not to make one.

I guess it is kind of like Lynch...there isn't a single skill that looks developable for the future.

I do get the point though that a guy as productive as he was deserves an extended look somewhere.

Cowboys to bring him in for physical, essentially to join practice squad.

And I don't think he can play outside linebacker in a 3-4.

If Sam Mills could, he certainly has a legitimate shot.

No clue, he still will be in coverage on backs and tight ends, can he do that?

Yes, I am sure he can cover a tight end.

The players were asked about bringing him in Dallas ...they were on board..they need him, I bet he's playing in a real game before October 1st..he's too good for that shitty defense to not be able to help immediately .
