Owner of the St. Louis Rams plans to build an NFL stadium in Inglewood, which could pave the way for the league's return to Los Angeles.

Rams owner Stan Kroenke, who bought 60 acres adjacent to the Forum a year ago, has joined forces with the owners of the 238-acre Hollywood Park site, Stockbridge Capital Group. They plan to add an 80,000-seat NFL stadium and 6,000-seat performance venue to the already-massive development of retail, office, hotel and residential space, Stockbridge and the Kroenke Group told The Times.

Goodell said no to any idea of relocating until at least next season.

Yeah, Goodell says a lot of things.

This is great. An NFL without that shitty dome and the 500 people who like the St. Louis Rams is a better NFL.

It will take about 2 years to build the stadium once it gets approvals --- so like 3-4 years. Rams are on a year-by-year lease. Probably won't move until the new stadium is ready.

Why would they stay in St. Louis as a lame duck? They'll play at the Rose Bowl till Inglewood is ready. I wouldn't be surprised if the gears start turning right now.

No way residents around the Rose Bowl allow that.

The best they could hope for is to share the Coliseum with USC.

I'm not sure that the Coliseum is an option. USC controls it now. My guess is the Rose Bowl. They won't stay in St. Louis any longer than they have to.

Might as well just make it happen today. The sooner I can stop pretending to be a Rams fan the better...

They really should. Kroenke just poisoned the well. He didn't say he was meeting in Los Angeles to discuss funding for a stadium. He said he's building a stadium. Short of a palace with 100-percent taxpayer funding, St. Louis is finished. No one will miss them. It's a city for baseball, hockey, and even some Catholic college hoops. They don't need and can't support the NFL.

The NFL and LA are an interesting study. This whole mess started when the Rams shot themselves by moving to Anaheim. Anaheim is not LA and never will be.

It's sad that St. Louis wasn't smart enough to protect themselves from this when the Rams moved there.

Jacksonville is easily the city that should lose their NFL franchise, but the State of FL was very wise contractually with all of their deals involving professional sports teams.

With the exception of a few, this seems like the opinion of most of the St Louis fans I know. No matter what happens with the NFL in St Louis the town will always be way more of a Cardinal and Blues town. And the majority of the state pulls for the Chiefs.

Looked into this stadium plan and the location....interesting.

Rewind back to 1980...the Rams moved from the LA Coliseum to Anaheim. The Raiders were still in Oakland. For those of you not familiar with Southern California, this is the equivalent of the moving the Bears out of Chicago to Naperville. it did not go well. Add in the fact that by the mid-80's, the quality of teams fielded by the Rams started to fade.

the Raiders moved to the LA Coliseum in 1982 and overnight became THE team of Los Angeles. Sure, Anaheim and Orange County are a fine area, but it's very different from LA.

My point is that this proposed stadium plan is quite a ways inland...it's about as LA as Anaheim. This may work since they have been without a team for so long, but it's not ideal.

LA is a strange city and people are different, but they do love their football and the NFL allowed two owners to screw them over. I think the NFL carelessly figured they could get a team there easily and missed badly.

Inglewood is firmly within Los Angeles County. Hollywood Park is only five miles southwest of the LA Coliseum as the crow flies, which by Los Angeles standards is nothing. They'll play across the street from where the Lakers and Kings played for thirty years, so I don't think there's going to be a problem with identification. Do you have a better site in mind?

I was mistaken and looking at the old proposed site out in Diamond Bar.

Hollywood Park is a great location.

The Rams have officially told St. Louis that they're exercising the option to play in St. Louis on a year-to-year basis. Meanwhile in Inglewood, residents are petitioning for a referendum that would put the zoning on Hollywood Park to a vote, presumably to vote for it to be zoned "stadium" or whatever.

When people in another city are petitioning to facilitate a sports team's relocation, it's all over. Welcome back, Los Angeles Rams.

Its LA, if they attach a mall to the stadium it will be voted for and to be honest, not a terrible idea!

Lots happening...
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/nfl- ... eague.html

The Rams want to move to Inglewood. Raiders and Chargers holding their current cities hostage and pushing hard for a different LA location in Carson.

My prediction....Rams and Raiders both return to LA...Chargers stay in San Diego.

I've been to Carson...shit hole. It's next to Compton, but also borders Torrance which is pretty decent.

For sure, tough, it appears the NFL will be back in LA 2016.

My very first business trip as a young up and comer was to Carson, Ca. In 1985 and it was a shithole then. Stayed in a Best Western and actally wedged the chair under the door handle.

Inglewood is also a shithole, so they'd have 2 NFL arenas in 2 shitholes.

LA is a weird city. The downtown area is nothing...it's tiny. It's just a city with 20 Naperville sized suburbs all connected.

The biggest crime here is St. Louis went out of their way to bring the Rams in...gave them their stadium only to have the NFL and a new owner tell them to get bent. The Rams should have never left in the first place, but they shot themselves when they moved to Anaheim. LA and Orange County are just 2 different areas.

Oh, St. Louis gets no sympathy. Their stadium sucks. I hope the Rams move back after this year.

EDIT: Kroenke isn't a new owner per se; he owned half the team from day one in St. Louis. He had right of first refusal on the Rosenbloom family's shares, which is why Shahid Khan had to settle for the Jaguars.

Their stadium sucks? It was good enough for the Rams to move there in the first place. I've been to that stadium. It's a dome...nice concessions, bathrooms, concourses, but it's still a dome which translates to football in a garage.

My problem is with the team and the NFL absolutely ramming a pole up the fans ass. Here's a team...oh....there goes your team.

Don't blame the team or the league (which hasn't exactly fast-tracked this relocation like I thought they would), blame the St. Louis convention commission for writing up a short-sighted dumbshit lease wherein the Rams could void the lease if the stadium, which St. Louis built on the cheap, no longer made the 50th percentile in various stadium rankings. What did they expect was going to happen? Wait, I know the answer, they expected that the owner wouldn't care because she killed her husband to get the team out to St. Louis in the first place. They didn't budget for some creepy recluse just wanting to turn money into more money.

St. Louis is gavaging this stadium deal down the public's throats, it would appear:
http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/govt ... b46e2.html

Quote:
St. Louis Circuit Court Judge Thomas Frawley declared invalid the city ordinance requiring a public vote. Moreover, Frawley ruled, the placement of the new stadium, along the riverfront just north of downtown, does not break a state law requiring the building to be “adjacent” to the convention center — it is close enough, he wrote.

“‘Adjacent’ has commonly been interpreted by Missouri courts to mean ‘near or close at hand,’” Frawley wrote in his ruling — and not necessarily, he continued, “touching each other.”

Proponents quietly promoted the new victory. Dave Peacock, one of Gov. Jay Nixon’s stadium task force members, praised the legal team as “extraordinary,” and called for “everyone in the St. Louis region” to rally behind the new stadium.

“The court’s opinion is a victory for a bold and promising future for the NFL in St. Louis and the continued rebirth of our downtown,” Peacock said in a statement.

“We can make it happen,” he continued.

This Peacock guy is a piece of shit. He's not putting any money into this! He's just some Anheuser-Busch executive in charge with rounding up other people's money, particularly people who haven't agreed to have their money spent. Don't tell people they need to get behind this, and don't praise the lawyers who got some crooked judge to agree that "adjacent" means "somewhere relatively nearby." They're going to look really stupid if Kroenke just moves the team anyway, which he can. The NFL should let him; shitty little St. Louis is not a hill worth dying on.
