I have no idea.

1. Aaron Rodgers
2. Tom Brady
3-5. ??

If I had to say, I would put Luck, Big Ben, and either Rivers or Russell Wilson as 3-5. The WSJ was correct though, the QB position is in trouble.

Not Matthew Stafford.

Wilson is way over rated.

Probably Romo, Ben and Palmer. Wilson is knocking on the door....mainly because there are a ton of bad qb's in this league.

I used to think so, but I disagree now. He's got some flaws and handicaps, but the results kind of speak for themselves. His offensive line is one of the worst in the league this year as well. But him being top 5 (potentially) speaks more to the dearth of the position than to how good he is.

Josh McCown
Carson Palmer

I think a good case can be made for Romo as top 5. I don't think that about Matt Ryan.

When healthy, I think Brees is still top 5.

What is hurting the QB position in the NFL the most is there aren't many college teams who run a pro style offense and the QB's are struggling to adapt to the NFL. Until the college offenses trend away from the read option and spread, this problem will exist.

Weren't you a guy who 2 years ago was talking about how the read option was the future of the NFL and Colin Kapernick would reinvent the game?

To be fair, that was 9 avatars ago.

This has to be a fucking joke.

There's no way Luck is a top 5 QB.

There are a lot of caveats using the words "when healthy", but taking injuries out of the equation, my 3-5 are:

Rapelisberger
Brees
Rivers

I could think long and hard about agreeing with this (injuries aside). Good list.
I've always thought that (injuries aside) Carson Palmer is a fantastic QB that I'd like on my side. So I might find a way to get him in there.

Really smart QB critics have told me that injuries matter for pure-passing QB's, so I might be wrong on this.

As a guy who prefers college football over the NFL, I was thrilled that the NFL seemed to be following the NCAA's lead & coaches like Kelly & Carrol were copying college read option & zone read offensive schemes...but that was short lived with limited success. Nevertheless, read option & zone read hasn't translated very well to the NFL, & if the NCAA doesnt have more teams running a pro style offense, it will continue to be a hindrance to the development off NFL ready QB's.

this. he was healthy last year and was starting to lose it. he doesn't have a good team surrounding him either but he has lost his edge and his sharpness considerably.

This I don't agree with. We may just be ending the era of historical QB greatness.

There were times when the top 5 QB's in the league were all future hall of famers. We just may not see that again. The bar is set so high that someone like Andy Dalton seems like a bum if he is up there.

My list of who I'd want right now.
Rodgers
Brady
Ryan
Rivers
Big Ben

I heard on radio Sean Payton-Brees' record the last 3 years it was awful..Payton's shine has wore off..he should be on the got seat.

So how did the NFL get competent quarterbacks back in the day when all of the teams were running the option?

Until the last 15 years or so almost all option QBs became safeties or receivers. See: Nebraska, Oklahoma etc. There were plenty of pro style college programs then.

he'd have been fired by now were it not for the career saving 2013 season. while they went 11-5 and won their first road playoff game, there were still inconsistencies and horrible losses that has defined payton's latter career with the saints. if they don't win 7 games this year, i think he may be gone. or, he gets one last season to salvage everything. but that's really what this season should be.

Please explain how Big Ben is washed up. I think this is another example of you throwing some shit against the wall. Ben is playing the best football of his career.

Based on current stats, the answer is:
Brady, Rodgers, Dalton, Palmer, Roethlisberger.

I’ve always thought Romo is overrated…he’s a good QB, but gets the benefit of being a member of the Cowboys.
