Before I opened this thread, that was the very first game I thought of. I went to bed in the Bears/Cardinals Crown Their Ass game, but I did watch this one, and it was jaw-droppingly good.

I'm a big Cardinals fan, and it was one of those things where you were kind of surprised you were there at all... and then to lose it like that. Ugh... I do have to say though, from what I see this year, I'm not ruling out another visit. Cautiously optimsitic at this point, but they've got a lot of strong points. And it would be great for Fitzgerald who is one of those Hall Of Fame guys that might not make the Hall Of Fame because he played for some ignored team for years.

I wasn't thinking Bears games were allowed but it's a toss-up between the Winslow game and McMahon coming off the bench in Minnesota.

And not even really a toss-up. McMahon is the greatest QB in Bears history. That game was awesome.

I agree with Dr. Ken. But I don't have a chance of defending this nearly as well as him, so I'll let him do the heavy lifting and be back for the Johnny Gomes-esque shit talking speech when we win the argument.

Last reg season game of the 1979 season. Mugs Halas died that morning. Bear had to win by a large margin to get in the playoffs on a tie-breaker. Payton was like 90 yards behind OJ Anderson for the NFC rushing title. Bears beat the St. Louis Football Cardinals like 42-6 on a bitterly cold day. Payton wins the title by a few yards.

I'd allow Sid Luckman because I have no real knowledge of his greatness. He seems like he was pretty good.

But that's the only exception.

It's a shallow pool, but the current guy is swimming laps around McMahon.

No.

Remember that game McMahon blew with a bad decision?

Me neither.

Me neither.

1). Do you know why we don't remember that game? Because when he made those bad decisions (it was a true running offense back then, but still), one of the linebackers went directly out to the field, murdered somebody and got the ball back. That defense and that run game could cover anybody's flaws. I'm not as old as some guys around here ( ) but I remember that it wasn't all flower bouquets for McMahon during the mid 80's. Lots of people weren't happy with his play during that time.

2). Do you know why we all remember the one game when McMahon led the team to a valiant comeback and won the game?
Because that was the one game when McMahon led the team to a valiant comeback to win the game. Acupuncture be damned.

I'll follow up.

All McMahon did was win, win, win, no matter what...(my kid loves that song)..

He won at BYU.

Came to the Bears and won. Ridiculous record as a starting QB.

But, wait, it was all defense.

Then, in 1986, the Bears had the best defense in NFL history. McMahon goes down and they can't win a playoff game.

His starting record was insane with the Beloved.

Cutler is probably 3rd, competing with Kramer.

Interesting comparison. I thought of the exact same name.

Kramer is the guy I would equate with McMahon.
Kramer would have won the SB with that defense and run game. No question.

Kramer might have.

McMahon

9-3 in Philly
8-4 in Minnesota
4-7 in San Diego.

I feel good about my opinion.

Truth be told, Vince Evans was the man.

Anybody that can play in the league for 37 years must be good.

Bullshit. NASCAR wants that stuff but they don't put limits.

It's essentially firing people up with cocaine and then saying "don't go too far".

I see it more like MLB lets players/teams enforce the "unwritten rules", and that's important to a lot of players, but they still hand out punishment for doing so. And the players get that.

The drivers need a union.

I didn't have a real strong opinion either way but I pretty much hate both those guys so it was hard for me to be objective.

But if I had to lean one way, I leaned toward screwing the guy over that ruined your season.

Actually, this is how I feel too

Kenseth is just such a dweeb. And he's old, so he's not gonna change.
Logano is a young talented dweeb, so maybe there's a chance he turns out like Gordon.

That's true. Evans is sort of like the Shawon Dunston of quarterbacks.

Partially because I was in attendance. That Garçon catch is an all-timer for me. Makes me sad watching the highlights. So much hope back then!

I tend to agree with Spanky. That is really because I don't remember much of McMahon as a kid (He doesn't either). Most of my Bears memories start with Harbaugh and Tomczak as QB. Naturally I was a fan of #4.
