We're down 2 points against the Austrailians with 9 minutes left in the 4th.

Carmelo is maybe the best Olympic basketball player this country has ever had.

A lot of these Aussies are bringing it. If the U.S. Didn't have Melo this game would be really ugly.

As I mentioned in another thread, Luc Longley is on the Australian staff.

That's tough to beat.

Hopefully, this game was a wake up call. They don't seem to give a fuck about defense, and I know Thibs is in need of a cardiologist after this half ass effort.

yeah i was thinking this topic is ripe for a john oliver "how is this still a thing?" segment. last time USA basketball had a pulse was when that one 2000s team fucked up and got 3rd/4th and the next one was known as the "redeem team" or whatever. otherwise it's zzzzz outside of maybe the first 5-15mins of a game til the USA pulls away.

USA basketball is only a big deal once they lose. No one wants to see a perpetual stream of blowouts because it's boring to watch. If it's a close game they will be criticized. If it's a loss they will be vilified. They are truly in a no-win situation.

You will never get 100% buy in from all of the top guys anymore. Every team going forward will have about 3-4 guys that have never made an all star team.

What does it say about Butler if he can garner just 6 minutes on a team that only has 1 top 5 player on it?

I'm starting to think Carmelo just isn't built for the NBA. He should try Europe. He's a lot better in international competition.

I caught the Argentina vs Brazil game on Saturday and it was incredibly entertaining and got to see Nocioni drop 37 points on Brazil and keep Argentina in the game enough for them to have a chance to win. The crowd was fired up. I always liked Noc and his motor and I think he had an edge to his game that is completely missing from Niko's game of pump fakes and pull ups.
