The playoffs where Kobe averaged 32 points a game and was the only Laker player who played like he gave a fuck?

He shot 38% from the field. He could a "gave a fuck" all he wanted. Still doesn't mean he played well. 'avg 32 per game just means that he took a lot of shots. And ball hogged every step of the way.

There were plenty of people arguing at the time actually.

At the time. Yes. The dust is settled. Duncan is king. It's not clear if KG is better than Dirk. That's an argument. Not Duncan vs KG.

Dirk vs. KG isn’t an argument. Kevin easily played both ends of the court at an All NBA level for at least a decade and was clearly a better player than Dirk, who was a better scorer I’ll readily agree.

Dirk led a team to the promised land. He did not have a superstar partner in crime. KG maxed out at appearing in a WCF as his team's no 1.

And Dallas played 4 on 5 with his defensive non presence.

Correction! The series against the Pistons Kobe avg 22pts per game on 22 shots per game. Highly "inefficient scorer" to say the least.

I was talking about that specific series when it mattered most. I don't care that he averaged 40 per game in a 4 game sweep of the Phoenix Suns.

04 Western Conference Finals against the Wolves. 24 pts per game on 41% shooting. Again abysmal

I'll go with Wilt, Kareem, Durant, Kobe, and LeBron. Shaq's lazy ass will be tired by the 2nd quarter, and Jordan and Bird will try to murder him by the 4th quarter of the first game.

Kobe would mentally break Durant before the game started and then shoot the ball 50 times. Nobody else would touch the ball unless they rebounded one of his MANY misses.

When he shoots the ball 50 times, he's undefeated.

My team is better defensively. Wilt would murder Shaq. Whoever Magic guards will get 50.

Yep Kobe would mentally break Durant in pieces. And there would be issues with Kobe and Kareem/Wilt. No way those guys could coexist. They would be ready to punch Kobe within 5 mins. Lebron would be trying to play peacemaker. All the while MJ, Bird, and Shaq would be destroying them.

Wrong! Durant prefers to play on a team where he's not the alpha. Kobe doesn't have a problem playing with anyone who isn't lazy. He would feed Wilt until Shaq begs Duncan to switch. Magic and Bird couldn't guard anyone on my team. We would double Jordan and Bird and force Magic to knock down jump shots.

Not enough shooting, things are gonna get clogged. Can double Jordan if needed by using the guy covering Magic.

I'd counter with Kareem (C), Dirk (PF), Durant (SF), Pippen (SG) and LeBron (PG).

LeBron guards Magic and doubles Mike
Pippen guards Mike
Durant guards Bird
Dirk guards Duncan
Kareem on Shaq

Plan would be to use LeBron as a free safety to help on MJ and Duncan specifically. On offense, LeBron will do whatever he wants with Magic to facilitate. Pippen plays the slasher while Dirk and Durant provide the shooting.

Kobe understands he's there to close. We're feeding Wilt and whoever Magic and Bird guards. It would be too easy.

  Of course. We would allow Kobe to go 1 on 1 against Jordan occasionally. Our objective would be to use Wilt or Kareem to attack Shaq and isolate whoever Magic and Bird guards on offense. On defense, we want Shaq to play hero ball against Wilt, and we want Magic to shoot jumpers.
