I guess it'd depend. It certainly wouldnt be as good as the Heat's big three, but offensively it would. It'd depend on who else they got to surround those three. I have much more faith in Pat Riley than Donnie Walsh or, god forbid, Isiah Thomas.

Donnie Walsh did a great job in Indiana.

He did a good job. What's he doin in NY so far? And he might bring back Isiah? I'd trust Riley to build a team from scratch over Walsh anyday.

He cleared enough cap room to sign 2 max guys but didn't get the memo that the 3 mi-migos had already had an agreement. He got the team out of cap hell too. While they overpaid for Amare he will help their team. Also the signing of Felton and the trade for Randolph will make the Knicks an improved team. IMO they are likely a playoff team.

Yeah he is. With the right Alpha in place he could definitely be the 2nd best player on a championship team. I'm not positive Amare can even be the third. I wouldnt be worried about the Knicks whatsoever if they featured Melo, Amare, and role players.

Melo isn't an alpha? It pains me to admit this but he is probably the clutchest player in the NBA. The guy makes over 50% of his last second shot attempts. I'm in complete agreement on Amare though. Maybe the press in NY will light a fire under him.

He's extremely clutch and one of the top 2-3 scorers in the league. But he's a great defender and he doesnt make his teammates better IMO. You cant be a superstar if you dont have those 2 qualities IMO.

I think he is improved defensively. He is even willing to take on the challenge of guarding a guy like Kobe. Also I couldn't agree more that he doesn't make the players around him better. I'm not sure if it is the players around him or if it's him. It's weird that a guy with his talent doesn't make players around him better.

The knack for being clutch is such a huge intangible, maybe the most important of all athletes across all sports. Combine this intangible with 25 ppg game, 6 boards, 46% FG, 80% FTs for his career (In The West!!!) and you have one of the best players in the league.

Too bad he's headed to NY. He fits just as well with D-Rose as LBJ would have.

Even better because he doesn't need to control the ball. He would be a perfect fit and if the Bulls had assets to give up I would hope they would try to use them on him. I pray that Deng stays healthy and shows a slight improvement. That should be enough to convince the Nuggets that something is better than nothing.

Somehow I made it through 3 quarters of that game. Good God that was bad basketball. At one point Denver was up by 40 points. Everyone on the floor looked like shit. I know 90% of these guys have no shot at making the roster, but the guy who will be on the bench next season, James Johnson, looked like shit.

I did learn that Johnson is a high level black belt, so don't fuck with him. This guy better start gooning it up, because I don't think he has anything else to offer when he's on the floor.

Ive always liked former OKC pg John Lucas. He had a team high 15 pts. Wouldnt mind him as a backup. Small tho.

While I am pretty happy with the Bulls "minor" moves, I'm mildly disappointed that they couldn't have gotten Barnes...he's signing with the Raptors for either 2/9 or 2/10 depending on the report which doesn't seem like a lot. I would probably rather have him than the combo of Brewer and Watson

I figured he would get somewhere in the $5-$6 mil/year range. Im just shocked he chose Toronto. I read that Boston and Cleveland were both interested in him, and I think those two desitinations would be a much better spot for him. I think Toronto might end up being the worst team in the East next year.

Yeah it is an odd choice but reportedly playing time was a big issue for him. He'll definitely get some there.

I'm actually happy with that combo. Call me crazy but I believe Brewer's style of play will fit perfectly with this team. He needs to work on his outside shot but everything else is a plus. While Barnes is currently a better defender Brewer is more athletic and versatile.

I would rather have a guy who is content to accept his role on this Bulls team rather than a guy who would pout if he wasn't getting minutes. I mean a guy should want to play but I don't want him sulking if he doesn't. I think the Brewer/Watson combo should be just as good as Barnes with less of a potential for headaches.

No, I agree with you....I think Brewer will be a good fit. I could see him being a Bowen/Raja Bell type for them. They need that

Here some Free Agent analysis for the few big names left (from ESPN):

Quote:
LAS VEGAS -- Some dribbles of gossip from the front-office grapevine as we transition from summer league to Team USA training camp in the desert:

• This is the week, by all accounts, that San Antonio and Richard Jefferson will complete the restructured deal that we’ve all assumed had to be forthcoming since Jefferson stunningly opted out of a $15 million salary for next season on the eve of free agency. The specifics in terms of years and dollars remain unknown, but I’ve been assured that Jefferson will officially be back with the Spurs quite soon.

• With or without an official deal for Jefferson, Shaquille O’Neal remains by far the biggest available name on the open market … with Tracy McGrady and Allen Iverson next in line on reputation. The Mavericks have abandoned the idea of a Shaq signing completely -- “He is out,” according to one team source -- since they have four centers currently on the roster until they can move the very available Alexis Ajinca. Atlanta, then, stands as the only team with a confirmed “live” interest in O’Neal. But Shaq, at last report, still wants assurances of a healthy slice of playing time as well as a salary that starts above the $5.8 million mid-level exception, which can be achieved through a sign-and-trade with Cleveland. No team out there, including Atlanta, is known to be willing to pay Shaq more than $2 million for next season.

• The Clippers do have legit interest in McGrady and are scheduled to work him out Tuesday. As Clips general manager Neil Olshey told ESPNLosAngeles.com’s Ramona Shelburne last week: "Tracy and I have a good relationship. We've known each other for a long time. He and Baron [Davis] have a good relationship [and] we obviously have a need for playmaking and scoring on the wings.” But sources say that news of the workout being made public was also intended to let the Bulls know that McGrady does have other options, since Chicago is where those close to McGrady say he’d love to land.

• Shaq, T-Mac and AI have all expressed interest in joining the most hated team in the league, yet you needn’t expect any of them to land on South Beach. In assembling a supporting cast for LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on a severely limited budget, Miami has made it clear that it doesn’t want to add anyone -- no matter how much money they’re willing to sacrifice -- that could conceivably challenge the chemistry or threaten to divert focus away from the three SuperFriends. O’Neal, frankly, was never a consideration after his stinging critiques of Miami’s training staff upon arrival in Phoenix and his history of slamming Bosh.

• Two former All-Stars that the Heat are far more likely to consider: Jerry Stackhouse and Michael Finley.

• I’ve been advised that Philadelphia, with its surplus of swingmen, is open to moving sharpshooter Jason Kapono, who has one season left on his contract at $6.6 million. Kapono is a natural target for teams in the hunt for a perimeter specialist with Mike Miller and Kyle Korver getting snapped up early in free agency.

• A season together with the Yao Ming-owned Shanghai Sharks in China did wonders for John Lucas’ son John and former Hornets and Cavaliers assistant coach Bob Donewald. Young Lucas followed up his strong play for Donewald in Shanghai with a big summer league with Chicago and is attracting interest from the Bulls and Heat. “I’m hopeful that we’ll have something to announce soon,” said Bernie Lee, Lucas’ agent. Donewald, meanwhile, has been hired as the new coach of China’s national team in addition to his Sharks duties.

Shaq is high if he thinks he can play more than a backup role at his age, and Tracy McGrady would be the Clippers' Ron Mercer signing.

Richard Jefferson's decision to opt out of his deal might be the worst financial decision I have ever seen an NBA player make. It's at least on par with Latrell Spreewell turning down his extension because "he has kids to feed".

What I like most about Brewer over Barnes is that Brewer is 5 years younger than Barnes. Barnes has a better long range shot, but Brewer is a much more capable slasher to the hoop than most defensive specialists. Having played out West against the likes of Kobe, K.Durant, Carmelo, and Brandon Roy (Last three in his division alone!!) I think Brewer will transition well to the East.

C.J. Watson is solid. Decent PG. Good decision maker. Nothing special tho. Prototypical "Backup" NBA Point guard.

3 point shooting is still a major concern with this team.

Would love to see Shaq as a backup. He could give you a good 20min off the bench. He wouldnt go to a crap team. Where would he start? Oklahoma City? Denver?

On a side note, John Wall led the Summer League in scoring at 23.8. Evan Turner played 5 summer league games, but only averaged 9ppg.

Cant believe Im the first on this board to mention that the Spurs really came up this offseason losing R-Jeff's contract (and vagina fright), Drafting James Anderson, and signing the talented 24 year old Tiaggo Splitter away from his Euroleague squad to take some of the pressure off an aging Duncan. The Spurs could easily slide into the 2 or 3 seed out west. Im not even a San Antonio fan, but they will be very good this year.

It appears that the Matt Barnes to Toronto deal did not happen. There are a few teams still in the hunt:

Quote:
Five teams remain in the running to sign free-agent swingman Matt Barnes, according to sources with knowledge of Barnes' thinking.

Toronto is still one of those teams, sources told ESPN.com, despite the collapse of a sign-and-trade deal with Orlando that Barnes thought would be completed by now.

One source close to process said early Wednesday that Barnes continues to weigh interest from the Raptors along with the Cleveland Cavaliers and three title contenders he has been negotiating with since last week: the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers.

Cant believve Kobe wants to play with all these guys who try punking him. Barnes would be good on that team, would only be the 7th or 8th guy tho.

I'm seeing the same thing. Cleveland is offering $3.5M in the first year too. It would be stupid for them to bid against themselves. He would be a great fit in LA and give the Lakers another good wing defender to use for Miami.

Post subject:  Re: Official NBA Free Agency Countdown

Veteran swingman Matt Barnes, one of the most coveted free agents left on the open market, is headed to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The seven-year veteran announced the move via his Twitter feed on Thursday, and the Lakers confirmed the deal.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Barnes agreed to a two-year contract worth $3.6 million.

"Its official I AM A LOS ANGLES LAKER. I wanna thank u for all ur patients and understanding. This is a dream come true!!! Good lookn Kobe," Barnes posted on his Twitter feed.

The deal is significantly less than the one he reportedly agreed to with the Toronto Raptors on Monday.

Barnes announced Monday night via his Twitter feed that he was headed to Toronto. But that deal quickly unraveled when it became apparent that the limited sign-and-trade options available to Orlando -- Barnes' last team -- would not allow for the contract that Barnes was anticipating.

Under the impression that he would be receiving a two-year contract worth roughly $9 million, Barnes tweeted his thanks to Magic fans after announcing that he'd be "playing for the Toronto Raptors" next season.

The Magic are prevented by salary-cap rules from starting a sign-and-trade deal for Barnes at higher than $1.9 million, because Orlando doesn't have Barnes' full Bird rights after employing him for only one season. A sign-and-trade deal would also have to span at least three years, although only the first year is required to be guaranteed.

Since Toronto recently spent the bulk of its $5.8 million mid-level exception to sign Linas Kleiza, it did not have the available funds to sign Barnes outright to a deal that starts in the neighborhood of $4 million.

Barnes will be joining his eighth NBA team in returning to Los Angeles where he played for four years for UCLA. He has averaged 7.3 points, with a career high of 10.2 for Phoenix during the 2008-09 season. Barnes started 58 games last year for Orlando in his only season with the Magic after a hard recruiting push from center Dwight Howard, averaging 8.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. The 30-year-old originally signed a two-year deal with Orlando but exercised his option to become a free agent after playing for $1.6 million in 2009-10.

Shannon Brown's agent, Mark Bartelstein, told ESPNLosAngeles.com's Dave McMenamin that Barnes' signing does not change things in Brown's negotiations with the Lakers but with 11 players now under contract for the Lakers and the remaining two roster spots considered earmarked for the team's two second-round draft picks, it would appear that Brown will not be returning to L.A.
