One team that has surprised a bit out of the gate are the Nets. 2-2 and playing hard every game, they don't look half bad. Could even be a playoff team. Russel is playing pretty good with the change of scenery, but some red flags with him are evident. Doesn't pick up assists and last night he made an awful play/decision that cost his team the game and he responded by yelling at his teammates that it was their fault. Not a good look.

Orlando doesn't look half bad either.

I'm doing a good job picking random games to record from the league pass. Every game I've picked so far has been a great game. Tonight might be the exception cause I'm gonna tune in to the Houston vs Philly game although Cleveland vs Nets is probably the better game. Later on is the Lakers vs Wiz which is required watching although Toronto vs Golden State game could be a good one.

damn I just continue to hit the jackpot in terms of picking the right games to watch. Last night was fantastic.

Really looking forward to seeing Giannis vs the Celtics tonight, haven't seen him play yet.

Later on you've got a couple 3-1 teams going at it, Portland and the Clips although more people might be interested in Boogie's first return to Sacramento. No word yet on whether Glass Davis is going to play tonight. Speaking of which, AD is really a little bitch. Didn't know that he went to the locker room for treatment in 12 games last year. Didn't return to the game for many of them. Guy is soft as charmin.

Clips/Portland is my game of the night. Blake's MVP campaign will continue, much to the chagrin of DB

The Bucks Mecca court looks dope as hell. They should just go back to that full time.

Alvin Gentry should be fired for that between quarters interview alone(also because he's a terrible coach). They asked about the Kings scoring 40 in the first quarter he basically did the verbal equivalent of the shrug emoji and then said the Pelicans would be fine once the Kings started missing more

Blake hits the game winning 3 with no time left to improve LA to 4-0. M-V-P

yea Blake Griffen is pretty good. 25/8/5 plus a buzzer beater 3 to win the game. Gotta be a top 5 MVP candidate so far.

Giannis
Lebron
Griffen
Harden
Westbrook

Has anyone on GSW stood out this year? I haven't watched them yet, but the guys listed all seem to be having better years than those guys.

I watched portions of some games and a lot of that Toronto game last night and I don't think so. If Steph and Durant are both healthy all year I can't imagine either emerging as a viable candidate.

It's obviously way too early to start making MVP cases but if we decided to anyway, so far it's Giannis and there's no close second. But I really hope Blake stays healthy. I really like this Clipper team.

The Kings should start Fox at the 1 and Hill at the 2, and bring Heild off the bench in a 6th man role. Fox has earned 30+ min a game already, imo, and Heild seems naturally suited for a 6th man role.

Cousins goes full superstar tonight to lead the Pelicans back for the W.

I was as intrigued as the next guy with the twin tower idea down there but there's simply no good reason to keep him and AD on the same team. Diminishing returns.

No there's plenty of good reason to have them on the same team if that team has any competent wingers and is not coached by Alvin Gentry.

But they don't have any competent wingers and that would be tough to change without trading Cousins or AD. The Gentry problem is obviously an easy fix but the management there is clearly inept too.

I think you might be right. I wanted it to work and still like the idea of zigging when the rest of the league is zagging, I just can't see it working out with the current situation.

Yeah I think there's little reason to be optimistic about New Orleans with both Gentry and Demps still around, but I think declaring that playing Cousins and Davis together would never work is wrong. The problem isn't that playing the two of them together simply doesn't work, it's a matter of who they're surrounded by.

And it wasn't matter of their contracts precluding the acquisition of other quality players either. They weren't the ones who forced the Pelicans to give Jrue Holiday $126 million this offseason and pursue Rondo instead of any shooters.

Post subject:  Re: NBA Regular Season Thread

I want to believe it can work. It just seems like spending too much salary/resources on redundancy. I mostly agree with what you posted though outside of the Rondo point. We will always disagree on how valuable he is, but I think the team has enough shooters. I think what they are missing is defensive wings and facilitators in the backcourt. They seem to rely on Cousins or AD to do the facilitating on the majority of plays.

Post subject:  Re: NBA Regular Season Thread

I just don't think there's as much redundancy as you're letting on, particularly since they're quite quite capable of spacing for each other. And any resource shortage has as much to do with what the team has committed to guys like Holiday, Moore, and Asik more so than overspending to get Cousins alongside Davis. The Boogie trade remains a complete coup and one of the few good moves Demps has made in his time with the team.

Cousins beasting tonight doesn't prove that they're better with one or the other. Davis and Cousins have played well together this season while receiving little support from the rest of the team.

There was a play near the end of the third quarter of the GS game tonight that I wish I could find a clip of. It perfectly encapsulates why I love watching Steph even though I don't like Golden State. He let the ball roll up the court on the inbound as is common towards the end of quarters when looking for a 2 for 1. He let it roll much longer than usual, past half court and closing in on the 3 point line, teasing the defender(I think Wall but not sure). Just as the defender finally bit and reached for it he picked it up and .2 seconds later let the 3 fly and made it. Just awesome.

John Wall isn't a #1. No way they should blow that lead.

Victor Oladipo > Paul George, and it's not even close. Sabonis almost averaging a double-double in points/rebounds. Indiana happy to dump an over-hyped player like George for an all-star and a quality bench player.

It's great seeing Oladipo utilized correctly for the first time in his career. Shaping up to have a monster year.

why do they want an aging Lebron? He's not going to beat the Warriors or the Rockets and even the Thunder in the West next year.

FF's Clippers lay an egg vs the Pistons at home
And Beverly hit a few 3s late or it wouldn't have even been that close

Nice to see 76ers redeem themselves this time against Houston.

Kyrie leading Boston to their 5th straight win

Orlando continues to look really good.

Warriors have absolutely owned the Clippers recently. I think LA keeps it close tonight.

How good are the Clips?

Idk if they have enough on the perimeter to make a deep playoff run, but if Blake stays healthy they are going to be entertaining throughout the season.

I like their perimeter guys.

This game is more about how bad Dallas is but the Clips are a 50 win team with a healthy Blake. That's pretty damn good in the West

Clippers are a bit of a mirage right now. Playing well, but unlikely to sustain it over the long run with the lack of backcourt scoring they have. They're relying on Blake to do too much in the offense and they really don't have much else. Great defense only gets you so far in the playoffs, you need to score.

I'd be surprised if they made it out of the first round of the playoffs the way they are constructed.

I think if they just make the playoffs that's above expectations for this season.
