Pros:

Hired Thom Thibadeau as head coach

Hired a yes man for Thibs as GM

Last 2 rookies of the year on roster

Best core of young talent in the league

#5 pick in draft

Cons:

Zero threats from three point range on roster

Most likely a year away from competing for a playoff spot

Need to find a vet or two for more leadership

These fans are serious...

So they're not set up to go small and shoot three pointers on every possession? That doesn't sound like your type of squad.

Maybe you should leave teams like the Timberwolves to guys like myself. I actually have hair on my nuts, you know what I'm saying?

Murray or Hield would be a pretty good fit for this team. Neither plays spectacular defense, but Thibodeau should help with that.

I prefer Murray over Hield, but either one wouldn't be a bad pick.

Ben Gordon would be a great addition.

How often does the head coach being the GM work out and what makes people believe Thibs can do both effectively?

Yes because if there is one thing that ol Tom likes to do, its coach up rookies and give them plenty of playing time to learn at the NBA level.

I'm not saying one of them would contribute immediately. We all know how he feels about rookies.

I assume you're referencing Doug McDermott, Marcus Teague, and Tony Snell? Not exactly Thibs type players... A top 5 pick should get far more playing time than those bums.

am I the only one that thinks tibbs develops rookies just fine. I know he is reluctant to give them playing time and once they do they have to beat the door down to keep it. Big during his tenure you saw taj, jimmy and Nikolai all contribute as nba players as low first rounders.

And in nikolias case regress in the absence of tibbs

Thibs is not the GM, but I do trust his talent evaluation 10x more than the front office of his last employer.

Every team has a GM. Outside of maybe Popp and Doc, who have more control over roster moves, it's hard to gauge how much sway each coach has over personnel decisions.

No, I would agree with that he develops rookies pretty well. He is just a guy that won't put them into the rotation before they are ready. I'm sure the pressure will be on to play a top 5 pick right away though. Should be interesting to see what he does.

After more thought, the 5 pick could be buried on the bench anyway with all the quality pieces in front of him. That's why I think if you draft a player who has quality range they will see more minutes out of necessity.

He's not the GM in name but he's making all the decisions.

Off the top of my head I'd say Poppovich, Parcels, Belicheck and Riley as successes but we're also talking four of the greatest coaches of all time there. In the end though it probably won't matter much because Thibs, just like Skiles and the Van Gundy's, has a short shelf life. His style only works in the short term.

He was given the keys to kingdom. I see him having no problem benching anyone. I would love to see a rookie complain about playing time after not playing defense.

Does Thibs really have a short shelf life? He was the Bulls head coach for 5 years, and that's been his only head coaching position. I mean BnB almost had me believing that narrative as well, but they are just front office shills. I tried to look up the average duration of employment for NBA head coaches, but couldn't find it. I'm very confident it's under 5 years tho. Thibs sample size isn't big enough to just dismiss him as a short shelf life coach. Especially when most NBA heads will tell you he's a top 5 coach where ever he goes.

I felt like tibbs shelf life ran out with his boss not the players. Has he been reaffirmed by the gm he still had that locker room.

Yeah I think the lack of effort throughout last season was the biggest indicator.

I put that as the gm being in the players ears.

If Bulls players were as loyal to Thibs as has been portrayed, then they would have attempted to win in spite of GarPax. These are professional athletes. They get paid to win games. They laid down because they were the ones complaining about Thibs grinding coaching style. There is no doubt that initial complaints came from the players and ended with GarPax.

Dunn is a great pick. I didn't expect him to there at 5... Willing defender, so you know Thibs is all about this guy being his PG over Rubio.

Yeah this could be really bad if Wiggins and Towns decide to leave.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong tho. I'll accept the clowning.
