He won't. I think Rose's people are pushing Minnesota. Remember the reports about Minnesota being interested in the off-season? It was bullshit because Rose ultimately took a minimum deal.

It's low risk so I guess that's a positive. If he sucks or is still the same Rose (which there is a 99.9% chance that is true), then you can dump him easily. This is Derrick's last chance at an NBA contract though so he needs to put in an effort if he wants any chance of being on an NBA roster next season.

I believe Derrick's Addidas deal only pays out if he is actually on an NBA team. I don't think he will play much at all, this is probably just a goodwill gesture by Thibs.

The Timberwolves have always needed more balanced scoring between the starting lineup and bench. I'm not sure how Thibodeau will handle the lineup considering he isn't doing what I'd be doing, but I imagine Crawford would say more time with KAT, Taj, Wiggins and Teague, and Derrick Rose would be able to get his shots with Tyus Jones feeding him, and Dieng / Bjelica with a pick-and-roll / pick-and-pop type game. He deepens the scoring options while Butler is out, and could still have a solid 15-20 minute per game roll when Butler comes back. Crawford will increasingly get tired as the season goes on, I imagine. I see Rose playing the 2 more than I see him reducing the Teague / Jones minutes significantly.

I don't see an issue with Rose and Butler. Rose has spent a couple of years now playing something between second fiddle and total non-entity. There will be no ego issue. Thibodeau and Butler are tight. Butler signed off on this, without question.

Actually when Rose has played the during the past couple of years he hasn't played as bad as it might appear. He still has NBA ability. What I think that he lacks is NBA desire. I believe that the only thing keeping him around NBA circles is that Adidas shoe deal. They whack him if he isn't on an NBA roster for certain. I think after this year they will cut him anyway. He is officially a journeyman at best now.

I thought Jones should be arguably starting ahead of Teague, so I think it's a bad move if that's who Rose ends up taking minutes from. And I'm not sure you can play Jones and Rose together as IMU suggests above.

Why can't you? Their games are different. Rose can play the 2. I've always thought that. And for what he doesn't have in terms of 3 point shooting, the other guys coming off the bench for the Wolves, including Tyus, do have that ability.

Thibs loves his vets so Jones is out. He is itchy to get that high screen offense going with Rose playing downhill. He doesn't want to play Jones in the playoffs. That is if they make the playoffs. They are in danger of missing the playoffs and this move smacks of desperation.

Rose may be able to play the 2 on offense (though I think that's a pretty big maybe at this point in his career) but I'm not sure it's possible for him and Jones to co-exist on defense. Rose hasn't been very good on defense in a long time and it becomes harder to hide him there with Jones on the floor IMO.
