Pretty interesting article I found on ESPN.com. I have a few disputes, but it was otherwise solid.

My main beefs:
Bulls - Marcus Fizer was a much worse pick than Eddy Curry. At least Curry had a couple decent seasons and he allowed the Bulls to fleece multiple draft picks from shitty Knicks GM Isiah Thomas

Nets - Ed O'Bannon was a much bigger whiff than Kerry Kittles

T'Wolves - Johnny Flynn should be the lone nominee. He's way worse than Bagels' guy Szczerbiak

Lakers - They can't just list nobody. George Lynch was a disappointment.

Spurs - I guess it has to be Sean Elliott. San Anotonio just doesn't have many lottery picks to choose from.

Raptors - I think I would actually rate Bargnani worse since Toronto wasted the #1 pick on him, but man that 2006 draft was terrible.

For the title, I think you mean best and worst lottery picks?

I think they picked Kittles because Kobe went two picks after him. That's problematic because if Kobe wasn't in the draft and some standard NBA dude was picked in Kobe's spot then they would never even think to list Kittles. So I don't know if I'm comfortable with the thought process here.

The writer contradicts himself saying he can't list Bynum under Worst because he was an All Star, but so was wally szczerbiak. Wally had a better career than Bynum

MANY teams passed on Kobe. If you want to follow that logic, every pick ahead of Kobe should be ranked as that team's worst lottery pick of all time.

Exactly - that's all the writer is doing here. It's one big exercise in applied hindsight. FF and I got into this debate before and I presume he's fine with this. You listed the main reason for why the underlying logic is faulty.

I'll admit it's fun to think about this even though it's hindsight. I might go Tyrus Thomas with the Bulls' worst lottery pick over Curry and Fizer. I agree with DB on Curry - plus he had value around the league when the Bulls wanted to part ways. If I remember correctly one big factor in dealing Curry was his heart condition or something, as opposed to something like potential. I remember Krause picking Fizer to screw up a deal between Orlando and someone else and I guess he was never able to flip him. He never fit in because the Bulls already had Brand.

Not sure what you're going on about here. Is this a reference to your incredibly poor "results don't matter when evaluating GMs" argument from awhile back?

Iverson was great, it's Philly's best pick all time.

Yeah, but Kobe.

 I don't want to ruin what looks to be a fun thread by rehashing that argument, so I'll just say my post was a reference to your glorification of hindsight bias. Your worst/best lottery picks?

Best is Tim Duncan, worst is a 14 way tie for the first 14 picks of 2011

I'd be interested in a list of best non-lottery picks of all time. Kawhi may eventually rise to the top of that kind of list. The best ones I can think of are:

Kukoc
Van Exel
Arenas
Leonard
D. Green
M. Finley

Kawhi is easily the best of that group.

Stockton. Jimmy Butler. Rodman. Nikola Jokic. I'm sure there's a bunch more we aren't thinking about

All good additions. Can't believe I forgot my man Manu. Here's my starting lineup (assuming everyone is at the prime of their careers):

Gasol?
Rodman
Leonard
Ginobli
Stockton

Second squad:

Divac
Green
Finley
Butler
Arenas

Super subs:

Price
Kukoc
Van Exel

If a guy like Moses Malone qualifies he would be top 5 probably. I think Jokic will end up better than Gasol and Divac

That was a helluva draft though. There were about 4 hall of famers in that draft. Top 5 draft past 35 years. He was the best of the bunch but some of the guys picked ahead of him weren't bums though. I get your point though.

Dumars. Rod Strickland. Tim Hardaway?
