Did the NBA decree that anyone discussing the NBA Draft must refer to players as "assets" or face 15 years at hard labor in a North Korean prison? No matter what station I have had on, anyone talking about the draft has very conspicuously used this term. Has this replaced "score the basketball" as the hip thing for people to say?

I think it's innocuous - it's a transactional way of looking at things, and draft night shifts the transaction rumor mill into high gear. Thus every pick is potentially an "asset."

I was listening to some of the draft coverage in the car on the way home and the scouting report on Josh Jackson was he's a very good defender, can't shoot, and has "elite energy."

Parkins just used both "assets" and "score the basketball" in the same sentence.
