Are you kidding me?

He has been a solid player, but not even close to a career worthy of retiring a number.

I don't agree with it but for a franchise that's never reached the Finals let alone won their division, I can see why they're doing it. Do you think Derrick's number gets retired sometime down the road?

It sure as hell shouldn't.

But who knows, it probably will be...especially with how there always seems to be such an uproar about anyone even thinking about wearing #1

I say good for the Grizz. good player that actually played in lesser city by choice. Assume he was a fan favorite.

Does OKC retire Durant's number?

Each franchise has its own reasons to retire numbers. Randolph made Grizzlies basketball and the city of Memphis relevant in the NBA.

As for Derrick, I'm not sure. I could definitely see him come back here to end his career if the rebuild turns successful. That story makes it more likely #1 gets retired.

Yeah I don't really have a problem with it. He was the heart and soul of some very good Memphis teams over an eight year period and those teams were a pretty memorable unit and by far the best so far in franchise history(obviously it's a pretty bad, short history).

More evidence Jorr is wrong. The half of the league Shaq didn't play for didn't end up retiring his number.

I love Randolph as a player. No doubt he was the heart and soul of their teams. I just think there needs to be a higher standard for retiring a number. By that standard the Bulls should retire Noahs number

All sports teams should have.

Nah Z Bo was better for longer on a team with WAY less history behind it. I think you should have more of an issue with Miami and Bosh than this if you're really picky on standards.

Plus, it's #50. Who gives a fuck?

From what I'm reading him being a major community figure played a large role in it. I don't know the details but that's what the articles are saying. I doubt they retire his number without him being a community pillar. I don't have a problem with it - it's a local thing.

I thought pot was legal now in California. I haven't heard of anyone even being busted in California in nearly 15 years.

Probably had more than an ounce on him. Stupid law, I'm sure it will be dismissed once they realize he's not a drug dealer, just a rich dude who can afford to buy in bulk.

My buddy buys a pound at a time for personal use so he doesn't have to make multiple trips to the dealer. And he is just using it for himself and a handful of friends when he goes golfing. I could see a guy like Randolph buying 2 pounds at a time for personal use and for parties of which I assume he attends a few.

But yea, it would be funny if the mega millionaire is dealing dime bags in the off season.

What is it with Randolph being a complete dumbass whenever he's not with Memphis? Guy was a disaster before going to the Grizzlies, and now gets popped about a month after leaving the Grizzlies. If I were him, I would never step foot out of the state of Tennessee again.

Hometown Sheriffs. Ya know how college players frequently get away with criminal acts? It's like that.
