Adam Silver is the best current sports commissioner.

Rob Manfred is not far behind.

Baseball rests players on a 162 game schedule - very few players get into even 156 games. Why can't basketball teams rest players on a 82-game schedule?

The players should fight like hell against this. Screw the owners.

Counter-argument: you should want to win as many of your home games as you can.

I don't understand the need to panic over resting players, the goal is to stay loose and healthy and push hard when the playoffs start.

If you want teams to bust Ass in the regular season than you need to cut the playoff teams from 16 to 12 and eliminate conferences.

The biggest problem the NBA has is no cap and super teams.

It would be interesting for the NBA to have a NHL hard cap and a lot more player movement.

You might have the right idea. The NBA needs more parity enforced on its roster construction, the NHL needs much much much much less.

People say they love it. A league that has 3-4 possible teams out of 30 something have a chance to win it all is not for me.

I do think it's bad for the fans given the price of NBA tickets.

3-4? more like 1-2.

There's no way to realistically do that without taking a lot of power from the players and giving it back to the owners. And I would hope most people wouldn't want that

Yeah, the hard cap cost the NHL an entire season and it still sucks because the salary range is too narrow for the revenue range. But my point is that a game like basketball needs more enforced parity while hockey needs less. Not saying the NBA needs a straight port of the NHL's system, which kinda sucks, just that the leagues need to move in opposite directions with their caps.

They could invent some other tool to promote the parity and movement. It does not have to be via a salary cap.

The panic is simple to understand. There are several players who, by themselves, make a massive difference in national tv ratings for the games they play in vs games they sit. Sponsors don't want to pay mega bucks for airtime if the game is going to draw reduced ratings because joe superstar isn't playing.

That's probably because you don't spend $150 to attend a game only to show up to see Ginobili, Leonard, and Aldridge on the bench.

On NBA radio on XM they were saying that the NBA doesn't care about the fans who buy tix and then show up to find all the scrubs playing. They said this is all about national tv ratings and fans turning the channel when the superstars aren't playing.

Worlds.Greatest.Athletes. Just don't schedule too many games for them.

The NBA has reached the point where they don't really need owners, or even city affiliations. The star players are the brands.

24 teams, four games a week for 20 weeks. Play triple-headers in 4 cities every weekend, and either single Tue/Wed or Tue/Thu night games in 12 cities during the week. 15 team roster, $100M to the winning team.

These world-class athletes (LOOK. AT. THEIR. BODIES.) are in their 20s, travel first-class, stay in 5-star hotels, but can't be bothered to work 82 days a year. They're lazier than Pat Hughes.

Honestly though, if one team does it, and you dont, you're at a disadvantage

They should just allow a 3 day disabled list (or whatever they call it in the NBA) and put guys on there for fatigue.

Jordan played in all 82 at the age of 39. Avg 37 minutes per game also. I'm an NBA enthusiast but they need to stop that. What Shakes alluded to is the thing that will get it done more than anything. When corporate sponsors and networks start bitching it will stop.

No one would have said anything if coaches rested a player here and there. The fact that Popovich and Kerr rested practically their whole starting lineups is what prompted this.
