Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson said Okafor would need to get in better shape before the center becomes a staple in the team's rotation, Brian Lewis of the New York Post reports. "I talked to Jahlil, had a great conversation with him," Atkinson said Sunday. "We need to help him get in better condition, that's first off. We need to integrate him more into the system. It's going to take some time. I'm not going to give you a date but it's a strategic plan, just like we've done with all our guys, integrating guys into the team. It's going to take some time."

Jalil Okafor dropped 25 pounds in the off season and it was obvious in watching him during the preseason that he was in better shape. Since Philly didnt play him don't what happened in 2 months.

i'm somewhat surprised too...i remember seeing him in shootaround for the Sixers not too long ago on NBA Game time or something like that, and they were commenting on how he was being a 'good solider' and staying prepared, etc.

During the Preseason he was much more active than he'd been during his previous two years in the league. Even chased someone down from behind on a fast break. It seems like Atkinson is attempting to cover his ass because the Okafor lazy narrative is the convenient play.

It is going to be difficult to convince the basketball world that Jarrett Allen and Tyler Zeller are better basketball players than Jalil Okafor. He is 2 years removed from being all Rookie. Their team stinks and they are getting blown out on a consistent basis. This isn't a Nerlen Noel situation where the guy is simply a fucking bum that can't play. He dropped 10 during the only game that he participated in for the Nets.

Have you actually seen Jarrett Allen play? I don't think I've seen him drop ten in the 4 combined games that I've seen him play since the trade.

All I know about Allen is that the Bears signed him after a long career with Minnesota and he didn't do much when he was here. Racked up 2 tackles though during one game.
