seems kind of odd. the game hasn't changed much since last year. I guess GSW being in the shitter?

They should investigate putting a team in Chicago.

nothing odd about it. More than any sport, NBA is a star driven league. Injuries and load management have taken several stars out of lots of games. Add in there a poor national tv schedule with way too many Zion-less Pelicans and everyone-less Warriors games on the early season slate of national games.

And then there is the product itself. Do fans really enjoy watching teams hoist up 1000 3's every game? Maybe they don't?

And then there is China.

Well that seems reasonable but its been this way for the past few years.

Adam Silver blames it on cord-cutting millennials. But aren't the ratings done as shares of the actual available audience. So cord-cutting's already baked in. The decline is real. LeBron being in the Pacific time zone doesn't help.

that's another point. Most of the good teams are in the west which doesn't help. I know I'm a consumer who won't watch games that start after 8:00 central time. I'm not going to watch a game if I'm in bed before the end of halftime.

This happens all the time. Soon enough the league will identify 2-3 super marketable superstars to carry the league on their shoulders for the next 10 years like LBJ, Wade, Anthony, Paul, etc did. Maybe the main guy there is Zion. Then everything will adjust

Maybe the KD-Kyrie superteam in NY will eventually draw. Don't think anyone will tune in just to watch Kyrie though whenever he gets back.

officiating. not letting players hit eachother. i get theyre trying to make it an offensive game but the rules have pushed big center men out. theres no good mix of athletes now, theyre all fast runners that can shoot and no defense. its not as fun to watch

Well you did push the narrative the NBA is just as popular as the NFL last spring.

That's a misnomer. I never said that it was as popular as the NFL. I said that regular and post season NBA is more popular than out of season football and it is. There was nothing untrue about what I stated. Though to believe those on here (thank god I rarely do) then you would probably believe that it isn't.

TV ratings for the NFL draft vs NBA games at the time proved your statements to be 100% untrue.

Post subject:  Re: NBA Ratings down 20% this year

The NFL draft doesn't contistute the entirety of the spring season. Its a three day event in which only the first day does huge box office.
The NBA Free Agent period dwarfs the hell out of the NFL training camp season. I can extrapolate that for the purpose of demonstrating something but I understand (unlike MANY here apparently) that it is but a mere extrapolation.

Post whatever you want dude.

Outside of Opening night and The Finals (perhaps the Conference Finals as well), NFL > NBA at any time during the year. You will not be able to prove me wrong.

You're wrong. NBA gets at least Xmas and MLK day too.

I don't care about a guy devoid of facts providing an opinion. It (NFL) is important to you. Great. You want hear Dan McNeil pontificate about it on its increasingly dying airwaves. Even greater. Your opinion (like his) doesn't quite jive with the facts. What a shock. Neither does his. In season NBA trumps out of season football by a wide margin and everyone knows it.

 Sometimes there is an NFL game on Christmas Night. But yes when Christmas is not on a Sunday or Monday with an NFL game, the NBA gets that day too. My apologies.

MLK day falls the day after NFL playoffs so the recap from those games dominates.

Nope. NBA gets MLK day.

Yikes. When one recalls that the NBA is about 76% in terms of minority players, the statement "NFL > NBA at any time during the year" literally inflicts a lot of layered racial violence.

Post subject:  Re: NBA Ratings down 20% this year

The NFL draft is the only thing that is bigger than the NBA during the offseason. And even that is really only the first day. It tails off tremendously after that.

The first day of NBA Free Agent signings draws much more interest than anything pertaining to NFL training camp.

NBA has to change the way that it markets its product.
