Which guy was better? Know Taj is still technically playing but he's done for all practical purposes.

Imu your dime, your dancefloor.

Let's start by looking at the best seasons of both players and making our way down.

Josh Smith's best season

19 pts 10 rbs 4 assists per game

Taj Gibson's best season

13 pts 7 rbs 1 assist per game.

I think Gibson was more consistent but had a lower ceiling

Smith could have been a lot better then he was if he stuck to his strengths

True but the best of Josh Smith laps the best of Taj Gibson to the point where it is laughable that some on here still cling to the silly notion that Taj was somehow better.

His career % from 3 is only 4 points lower than that of Jokic and MANY (FF) would be hard pressed to ever label Jokic a terrible 3 point shooter.

His Career % from 3 is also 20 points higher than that of the "original stretch 4" Bob McAdoo.

In many ways it could be argued that Josh Smith "revolutionized" the stretch 4 position.

Of course the best of Josh Smith was superior to the best of Taj. I don't think it's a great comparison. I think Taj was more reliable and more of a team player. Whatever that means.

Its not a great comparison because Josh Smith was so much better as a basketball than Taj. The Best of Josh Smith was 1st or 2nd best player of a team that made the 2nd round of the playoffs.

The best of Taj Gibson occurred as a starting player on teams placing in the top half of the lottery. The best of Taj rendered nothing more than a role player. Best of Josh Smith was borderline All Star. Its silly to see the basketball "gods" (oxymoron if ever one existed) of this fine establishment routinely reduce the guy to a basketball joke.

Josh Smith couldn't get out of his own way though. That was his problem.

And Taj Gibson's problem was that he was an undersized 4 man with very limited ability. A simple drop step would likely lead to him breaking his own ankle.

Talent wise and Player wise Josh Smith was light years ahead of Taj.

No argument. Josh Smith was a player with all star ability and a freak athlete. Taj was a role player who maximized his talent.
