If they are going to go to Omaha, they need to bring back the KC-Omaha Kings with the split season!!!

If the Premier League can have six or seven teams in London and two in fucking Manchester, Chicago can support a second NBA team. But no way Jerry allows that. Same reason why Austin and Nashville won't get teams so close to San Antonio and Memphis.

If you told LeBron that he could own one of those teams, where would he put it?

China? Or India now that China's cooled on the NBA. Lebron will be part of the ownership group for the Mumbai Mambas, starting play in 2038. AC Green still the commish or whatever for the pilot pro hoops league in India

man, I understand the need for finances but adding teams just seems like suicide. More teams trying to suck to get a good player but there's less good players going around.

Frequent short-list mentions:

Seattle, Vegas, Kansas City (probably the best market for the NBA among the candidate cities, other than adding another LA/NY/Chicago/Bay Area franchise), Louisville, Nashville, Vancouver, California cities (from San Diego up through Anaheim to northern California and even the Bay area)

San Diego doesn't have a new arena, but if they announce plans for one, I think they could jump Las Vegas and pick up locals who feel burned by the Chargers moving north. Kansas City has a new-ish arena, but the city has said that they don't want a major tenant to come in and parasitically demand all the ancillary arena revenue that had been going to the city, so the city won't cut that deal. That's why the Penguins and Islanders never wound up there. Vancouver is tricky because the Raptors are owned by MLSE, which in turn is owned by both sides of Canada's telecommunications duopoly, which means the Raptors have a fully national schedule split between both networks and would probably like to keep it that way. Louisville has a new arena, but if people don't like going to Indianapolis and wouldn't like going to Cincinnati, why would they like Louisville?

This seems like a really shortsighted move if they are serious about it. Ratings are down. There are already concerns about quality of competition, and the future of large crowds, especially indoors, is in question.

The NBA is going to take a revenue cut in their next TV deal, and China is an unreliable source of income. So you want to dilute revenue further by expanding for a one time fee?

This is how the NHL got itself into so much trouble by 2004: they kept covering revenue shortfalls with expansions.

Looking into the history of this. The NHL was a real mess for a long time. And I see that Seattle paid $650 million for a new team called the Kraken. Sydney Powell is the head of PR.

I think I said it a few weeks ago and many times before as well: the NHL started their domino rally to hell when they hired Gary Bettman to be their tough-talking negotiator despite no experience with Hockey People on either the ownership or labor side. He was so inept at securing a salary cap and revenue sharing that the big-market owners had to swoop in and do his job for him, but they only looked out for themselves, leading to ten years of Philadelphia, Detroit, Dallas, and Toronto doing whatever the hell they wanted until the entire economic system finally collapsed. By the time they finally got what they wanted, it was eleven years too late.

I think it's partly a status thing for Louisville. They see Nashville exploding since they brought in the Titans and then the Preds and think, "we need us a pro sports franchise". Plus the whole Kentucky being hoops-crazy and the stigma of crossing the river to support an Ohio or Indiana team wouldn't apply for Eastern KYer's if a team were in Lou-a-vull. Although judging by the team paraphernalia available in the truck stops and gas stations around Louisville they have no problem supporting the Colts. Never really pay that much attention, but don't recall seeing much Pacers swag around Louisville.

What's Louisville have for rich guys that can afford, Yum Foods and Papa John? They have horsey rich and whiskey rich, but they're paupers compared to the tech guys buying up teams in other cities.

Yeah, NBA catchment areas generally don't span out too far from the city itself. That's yet another reason why St. Louis is a no-go: the Cardinals rely on having a huge footprint. The Rams didn't have the same one and couldn't recover from that. Even the Blues seem to do well downstate in addition to their middle-class-suburban base.
