Been saying this for years and I couldn't agree more with this particular take.

Quote:
The Jason Smith Show
Steph Curry is a 'Fun Show' But Overrated and Doesn't Make Teammates Better
By Wil Leitner
Apr 19,

Jason Smith: “Tonight is the 11th straight game that Steph Curry has scored over 30 points, but let’s not confuse a ‘fun’ player who gives you a lot of highlights, with a guy who is raising the level of his team. Do you know what their record is in these 11 games? 6-5. He has been absolutely huge but it doesn’t translate to wins and losses. He’s fun, he’s a human highlight reel, he’s a phenomenal shooter, and the best shooter I have seen in years, but is he raising the level of the Warriors? He’s NOT… The Warriors are going to be lucky if they make it into the play-in round. He’s kind of like Kobe at the end, where he would have big games once in a while, and Kobe wasn’t the player he used to be, but boy, was he still a show. That’s what Steph Curry is. He’s a 'SHOW' and it’s great, but it’s not like the Warriors are 9-2 during this stretch and racing through. I can’t give a guy the MVP when I don’t even know if he’s going to be in the top 8. I’m sorry the West is tough, but Steph Curry had no problems when he had a peaking Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and Kevin Durant. He had no problems then but the true greats can do it themselves. You can raise the level but he’s not doing it. Luka Doncic has raised the level of Dallas basically all by himself. You say Steph ‘needs help’, but is he an ‘all-time great’ or does he need help’?? You can’t tell me one or the other, because LeBron got the Cavaliers to the Finals in the East many years when the second-best player was Anderson Varejao. Steph Curry is a SHOW. But it’s ‘highlights’ ,and how much substance is there to it when you’re 6-5 and barely .500? I enjoy it, it’s fun, and it’s fun to see him hit these shots; he’s a show but his impact is the standings is really not.” (Full Audio Above)

Why can't he be an all time great...and need help?

That take is more click bait than anything. 2x MVP, the leader of 3 Championship teams.

He's not Pistol Pete putting on a show. C'mon.

Thanks GJ. Leader of one actually. And even that one is tainted because Kyrie and Love were out. Durant was unquestionably the best player on the other 2.

You have to make the playoffs with that team if you are that dude. He missed this year and missed last year as well.

I can remember a guy being a top 3 finalist for MVP while Missing the playoffs. Overrated

Robert Horry is a 6 or 7 time champion and Nash is a 2 time MVP. Neither are considered all time greats.

Robert Horry was never an MVP.

Steve Nash never won a championship.

Steph has achieved both those accomplishments multiple times.

Surely, that elevates him above those two players.

He has missed the playoffs last 2 years. Ja made it with worse talent on his team

That’s a shift in this conversation, and also up for debate.

Do you concede he is a better caliber player than Steve Nash and Robert Horry?

It really isn't a debate. He has better talent on his team. If Draymond were on the Grizz he'd be the 2nd best player on the team. Wiggins would be 3 or no worse than 4.

Steph Couldn't didn't get his team to the playoffs 2 years in a row. He has 3 rings but was never the best player in any of them. He was dominated by Irving head to head.

Before that series it was Westbrook.

I used Nash to illustrate that simply winning 2 MVPs doesn't make one an All Time great either.

Also you switch Luka for Steph and the Warriors are a 5 seed right now.

Last Season Paul took a shitty OKC team to a 5th seed.

I felt like this was a thread which would lead back to your preference of Kyrie over Steph.

Like most things in sports, it’s an opinion.

You are entitled to that opinion.

Also, you did not answer my question.

What opinion? There were actual playing of the games They switched Klay over because Kyrie was killing him. The series before they did the same thing with Westbrook because he couldn't check him either.. It was settled on the court. Not a message board.

He is better than Horry and Nash. Neither are all time greats and neither is he. Unless you consider top 75 (maybe) an all time great. He should be great enough to get his team to the playoffs. Especially with the talent on the roster.

I think Steph is an all time great.

I’m a nobody on a regional sports based message board.

My opinion carries no weight.

Mine doesn't either. There are probably 75-100 guys that I think are better however in the history of the game however

Scottie had to be switched over on Magic when he'd been killing MJ. It's not a killer.

Mostly because Magic was too big for Jordan. Plus Magic didn't stand a chance of checking Jordan either.

In Curry's case these are guys he should be checking in theory. They check him. He ducks them. It is so much easier to get yours when you don't have to play any defense. He never guards good offensive players and there is a reason for it. His defense stinks.

That takes away from him tremendously as an all time great player. His supporting cast was extremely good during those championship years. It wasn't like he was carrying the team. He wasn't even the best player for 2 of them.

He is an all time great shooter. Player is another thing for me.

Yeah he has shit all over him even though they won a title and made another one before Durant got there. Also if Green doesn''tget baited into getting ejected by Lebron they probably win that one to.

The only championship that they won without Durantwas tainted,. If Green was the difference then so was Irving Paul and Love for at least 2 of those championships.

I placed a bet that Curry wouldn't make the playoffs last year and I would have made it this year 2. If he is that dude then they should at least make the playoffs.

Chris Paul did it with an OKC team that was much less talented than this year's G.S. squad.

Nah just demonstrating how championships aren't the main determinant. Dude should have made the playoffs this year if he Is that good.

When its all said and done he will go down as arguably the best shooter in history. Top 50 players. Nah. Too limited in other areas.

I am in agreement here. He is definitely an all time great when talking about shooting. But I wouldn't put him in the category of all time great player, and at this point I don't see him getting there.

He’s the best shooter who’s ever lived and there’s nobody who’s close. He changed the way an entire generation of kids is playing the sport. He’s one of the 10 most important players to ever play in that regard. Yes, he’s an all time great player and I don’t even see how it’s a debate. And he’s probably gonna add to his resume for the next 5 years.

The "nobody close" is what is silly. The stats say that there are people that are close. Really close. And besides shooting is but one aspect of the game. What other aspects the game is he impacting?

You want to know why I was so comfortable with placing the bet against them making the playoffs last year and would have done it again this year? Because I know that it takes more than shooting to make one a PLAYER.

At every other aspect of the game save for dribbling he is woefully inept. Just as he is one of the best shooters ever he is also one of the worst ever defensively Can't guard a lightpost. Decision making? Have you seen whenever he has had to run a team? He is listed as the point guard but do you ever see him ever play the position? YAR.

For all of the deep playoff runs that he has had do you ever recall him having a great series when it really truly mattered? I don't. Never been a Finals MVP and has been either outplayed or outright thrashed whenever he has participated in one.

And haven't you been the dude that has consistently claimed that he was a better player than Durant over the past 5 years?    Now thats what is silly.

Agreed RFDC. It takes more than shooting in order to make a person an all time great player. If he were truly an all time great his team would have made the playoffs the past couple of seasons.
