There seems to be a few issues.

They "knew" of the relationship since July. It became an issue recently with the claim that he made an inappropriate comment to the person in the organization.
It seems to coincide with a relationship between a VP's wife and him. Was the supposed inappropriate comment just an excuse to get him for that?

I would guess they are hoping to work out a buyout and move on from everything but he could make things very difficult on the Celtics if he wanted.

Or they still plan on firing him but want to make sure all their ducks are in a row so he can’t make it difficult. Suspend him and take your time with the investigation.
