Lost in the hype is how great Chet hast looked this year as well. I know they were drafted in different years, but both rookies this year. Can't remember the league ever having two franchise level centers in the same rookie class.


Should be a good battle for a long time. For now, Chet is on the MUCH better team, but we'll see what the Spurs end up looking like in a few years.

But I also agree as I stated earlier, Chet looks great. He's one of those guys who looks better in the pros than he did in college, benefitting from all the extra space. In college he would try to take guys off the dribble from the 3pt line and he would run into a wall of help defenders. I've already seen him get to the hole 1v1 with ease several times as a pro.

20 blocks for Chet, 19 for Wemby...although blocks are one of those stats where maybe guys don't even try to go up on Wemby vs thinking they can dunk over Chet. Prolly impossible stat to track, but it should really be shots blocked or altered or never taken because of the defender's presence.

238 minutes played for Chet, 233 minutes Wemby

Wemby does things on the court no one's ever seen before. e.g., his ability to defend at the rim and still challenge or even straight up block the shot on the outlet to the 3 point line. He needs more consistency in his play and more flight miles playing against NBA talent but Wemby's potential seems greater than Chet's.

Notice San Antonio lost their shot doctor Chip to....Oklahoma City back in 2022, so he's been working with Chet since Holmgren entered the league. Could explain Chet being 56% from 3 and Wemby about half that.

I saw the game when they went head to head in the preseason and it was apparent that Wemby had the higher ceiling. Though Chet was hardly anyone's slouch. He competed and posted solid numbers. Wemby had more wow moments and appeared to be more of a matchup nightmare though. Both will be good but likely will be injury prone throughout their careers. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see anyway they won't be.
