Unfortunate for Oden, but could have a beneficial effect on their draft for next year. I expected them to miss the playoffs, but not necessarily to have a high pick in the lottery. Now we may see them add someone like Eric Gordon or OJ Mayo if things line up right for them.

Here's what Oden said about it before the extent of the damage was known:

Quote:
"On my vacation earlier this summer i got up off the couch and remember my knee having a sharp pain in it. That was about a month ago. I didn't tell anyone because i didn't want to seem like i was complaining or making excuses for anything. Plus i wasn't doing anything at the time i realized it hurt, so i figured it couldn't be anything big. After a couple of weeks, i had to finally tell someone so i went to St. Vincent's Sports Performance (where i worked out at before draft) and got my knee looked at. That was right before i moved to Portland for good. My knee was swollen since i was there. I finally just said that i need to tell my trainer because this is not normal. We went to the doctor's the next day to get a MRI and that night me and my mom ended up in the doctor's office being told that I have to get surgery. It's a light one, just a scoop, but still it's just another setback. I would like for me to be playing and not seem like i'm a high maintenance player, but things just keep popping up. "

Oh, man that's disappointing. I was REALLY excited to see him in the league this year. I've been in the Greg Oden Asslicking Society for a while now. Ah, well.

Yeah, the ol' David Robinson-Tim Duncan situation....(not that Oden is going to be like the Admiral, but you know what I mean)

A lot of 45 year olds have knee problems so this isn't a shock.

On a side note, ESPN, ESPN Radio and ESPN.com haven't reported it yet, so maybe it's not true.

It takes awhile for them to get to news on the west coast

As a side note, LeBron James had Lasik eye surgery yesterday. It's the top news on cnnsi.com

From http://www.nba.com/blazers/ . . .

An exploratory arthroscopic surgery performed on Greg Oden today revealed cartilage damage to the Portland Trail Blazers rookie’s right knee. Oden is likely to miss the 2007-08 NBA season.

Yeah no kidding, taking into account they have the ROY from last year plus the #2 pick in LaMarcus Aldridge. They have a very young talented nucleus, but thats terrible news. I guess Durant is a shoe-in for ROY now, though I was pretty sure he was winning it anyway.

Do you not like him, period? Or just not more than Durant? I like Durant more than Oden, but I still think Oden will be a solid pro.

agreed 100%.

Anyone else afraid this could be Sam Bowie all over again. Alot of people forget Sam Bowie was really good when he played, but injuried kept him from realizing his potential. Im worried for Blazers fans.
