Probably a little cliched to say so, but to me, they were both the same player. A better case could be made to say that they couldve switched teams and each team would still have been as successful rather than saying the Celtics with Nowitzki still wouldve won tittles.

I'd probably say that Bird might not have fared as well on the Lakers since he wasn't as effective a ball-handler as Magic. He was a very good passer, but not a real PG.

On the other hand, Magic wasn't the defender, rebounder, or outside shooter that Larry was.

That's a real interesting angle man.

He's probably top 5. I think many fans fall in love with flash instead of skill and results. There are only a few players I've ever watched play where I just shook my head at how amazing they were and he is one of them.

Trust me, he wouldn't have. That's why I completely understand why Portland drafted Bowie over Jordan. They already had their "Michael Jordan" and honestly Clyde was the better player till about 1987 or so.

OKC is probably the only person in the world that thinks Pippen was better than Magic. Even Larsa knows that isn't true. I could make a decent case that Magic was a greater player than Jordan. How can he not be in everyone's Top Ten?

Well, first off the number of points produced off Magic's assists, baskets, and free throws is greater than Jordan's. He also averaged about a rebound more per game. Magic could play every position on the floor including center which he did in an NBA Finals, winning the MVP.

Look, I'm not saying that Magic was hands down a better player than Jordan. I'm saying there's a case to be made and it isn't a silly one. Of course, this forum loaded with Chicago guys is probably the wrong place to try to make it. In that way it's not much different than saying Eric Dickerson may have been a better back than Payton. That isn't going to fly here. But it's not going to be laughed at in Philadelphia or Dallas.

I see your point, but I think there is a difference. The argument that Dickerson may have been better than Payton might not be laughed at in Philly or Dallas. But I think most arguments for Magic being better than Jordan is going to get laughed at just about everywhere.

I'm not sure that's right. For a generation of fans it's become the accepted wisdom that Jordan is "that best that ever was, the best that ever will be". I don't think that's a view so strongly held by real knowledgeable NBA fans. Which isn't to say that Jordan wouldn't be the consensus "greatest player" among experts, just that suggesting others are in the conversation would not be seen as absurd.
