Which isn't to say that Jordan wouldn't be the consensus "greatest player" among experts, just that suggesting others are in the conversation would not be seen as absurd.

I stumbled on an interesting thing over on Basketball Reference, the NBA Elo Player Rater. Jordan looks to be considered the greatest by raters, and by a decent margin. Magic is 5th.

That player rater is obviously flawed. It has Bird 6th best all-time and as everyone who listens to Lil Danny and his incoherent partner already know, he's not even top 10.

I never saw any of his international play, but there is no way he is the best foreign born player in the history of the association. He was pretty much broken down when he got to Portland.

My bad. But he was the best. In his 30's he was still a top 5 center in the league. I guess Dirk may be the best non American white looking guy to play in the NBA. Even though the guy has never been able to stop anyone on the defensive end.

Don't sleep on Petrovic. His career was cut short, but he could really fill it up.

He crossed my mind, but like you said, he never got to his full potential. Petrovic and Sabonis are 2 players I wish there was more film on for different reasons.

You're officially disqualified from opining on European NBA players from the 90s.

Detlef was really good, not necessarily better than Sabonis, Nowitzki or Petrovic. But he was very versatile, deadeye from 3 point land, and had a very good handle for a 6'10" forward. If he was your third or fourth guy, you had a really good team. He was more of a supporting type player, whereas the other guys mentioned (in their primes) could be considered franchise players.

Awesome post. His contributions to Seattle really helped propel them for a few years.

How do you rate those 4 international guys? It's tougher than it looks. Detleff was sneaky good like you said.

Is Steve nash considered an import?

Where does Manu and his 3 rings rank?

That kid is good, but word on the street is his game hasn't progressed the last 2 years. Still one of the best players on the floor when the US team took on Spain in the Olympic trials.

One guy was a center. The other was a shooting guard. I'm not sure how you compare them.

Why do you require the definition of "most"?

I'm sorry. You said many guys in this thread. Who is Issel better than? Dave Cowens?

Probably not. I didn't even notice Cowens getting a mention. Or Havlicek. But he was better than Schrempf, Smits, Chambers, Divac, Majerele, Rambis, Sloan, and some others that have been named here. I assume some of them are tongue in cheek, but not the ones I mentioned by name.

The conversation took somewhat of a turn and there was discussion of some of the best Euro guys. Not necessarily the best white guys overall.
