To put it bluntly, the top two seeds in the Western Conference finished the last month of the season horribly.

Who should be more worried about their downward spiral headed into an unforgiving playoff field after the first round?

Spurs
1st seed in West
6 game Losing streak (3/23-4/1)

The Spurs were by far the best team in the NBA up until late March. Then in an inexplicable turn for the worst, the Spurs lost 6 consecutive games from March 23 through April 1. A feat that hadn't been achieved since the pre Duncan era in San Antonio. The Spurs are only 4-8 since the losing streak began. Random injuries to Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker no doubt assisted in this month long dip in winning percentage. Even with their stars back and playing starter minutes, the Spurs couldn't beat the mediocre Suns in the season finale Wednesday. Also keep in mind the Suns put up 43 points in the FIRST QUARTER of that game. Add on top of all this gloom, the fact Manu Ginobili hyper-extended his elbow against the Suns and is expected to miss at least game one against Memphis, and there is plenty of justified reason to panic in San Antonio.

Lakers
2nd seed in West
5 game April Losing streak (4/3-4/10)

After losing one game in a month and a half following the all star break (One game? Goddamn!), the Lakers went 3-5 in April. All 5 losses came in succession, and 3 of those defeats came at the hands of playoff teams (Denver, Portland, OKC). The Lakers only reached 100 points once during the losing streak, and could only finish the game in the mid 80 point range for three of the losses. In their last two games of the season, which became pivotal matchups for the #2 seed in the West, the Lakers were now in a must win environment due to the April losing streak. In these two games, the Lakers beat the second unit of the Spurs, and had to take the Kings into overtime the last night of the season. To make things worse, Andrew Bynum injured his sugically repaired knee against the Spurs and will be playing with a gimpy leg from here on out.
