I think DB said Kobe and Dirk have never met in the playoffs before. With the ascension of Dallas as a grindier type team, and the Lakers having been exposed a little bit against the Hornets, I see this series going no less than 6 games.

Should be a fun series. I really would like to see Dirk beat Kobe but I am not sure if he has the help. Derrick Fisher has to be happy to be guarding another member of AARP instead of Chris Paul this series.

Gasol shouldn't have a problem with anyone being physical this series. If Bynum and Odom play great the Lakers will win. Of course they're usually the x-factor in most tough series. The way the Lakers abused the Mavs at the end of the season a Game 1 stomping by the Lakers could end this one in 5 games.

Per ESPN:

Dallas (PPG)
PG J. Kidd 11.7
SG D. Stevenson 2.8
SF S. Marion 10.5
PF D. Nowitzki 27.3
C T. Chandler 6.5

Los Angeles (PPG)
PG D. Fisher 9.3
SG K. Bryant 22.5
SF R. Artest 11.8
PF P. Gasol 13.5
C A. Bynum 15.2

You somehow forgot probably the best player in the series.

Believe it or not, this is the first playoff series between these two Western Conference foes since 1988. I think the Lakers take care of biz in 6 games.

I think I should just stop Lakers home games during the playoffs for the sake of my health and NBA fandom. The consistently atrocious officiating just kills me.

Good to see the Mavericks win, especially since it seemed like they were playing 5-on-8 for most of the game. They played really great defense down the stretch. Gasol and Bryant by contrast looked like crap in crunch time.

That was definitely a foul on Gasol....shocked they didn't call that on Kidd though

Looking at the replay, I didn't think Kidd fouled him

Looked like Kobes foot just gave out

Phil was totally stalling for time to get in Dirk's head to take a big shot and then Gasol went and fucked up the plan by fouling him

Dallas is a better team. And Kobe probably isn't a top-five NBA player anymore.

Could be the Mavericks' last chance to win an NBA Championship with this core, OKC.

I agree. The same could be said for both the Lakers and Mavericks though.

Go ahead and throw the Celtics in that group as well

Those two and their size should be dominating.

Tyson Chandler has been big with containing them. They have had pretty good games still, but the problem they have no one who can contain Dirk.

LA is looking old and with Kobe not being the same ole Kobe, they are in trouble.

I've watched very little of this series. Do you think it will be a sweep?
