Lakers gave up quickly. Gasol lived up to the soft label in both series. For saying they would still win the series, Kobe didn't show up again. This has to be one of the most embarassing efforts from a defending champion.

I hear what you're saying, but I wouldn't say that Kobe didn't show up. Kobe is clearly a guy who just doesn't have anything left in the tank. Deep down, I'm sure he realizes it too. You can have as much drive, resolve, and determination as you want, but if your body fails you there's really nothing you can do about it. Same thing with Duncan. Those guys have logged historically heavy minutes, specifically in the playoffs. We're just seeing what naturally happens to athletes once they pass their prime. Kobe is unfortunately past his. To put it a different way: Kobe no longer has the ability to be the best player on a championship team.

I'd also like to know out of curiosity, what your larger point is. Are you saying that Andrew Bynum's cheapshot somehow detracts from the overall entertainment value of the NBA? If so, I'd like to know how so. It's not as though we see that sort of thing in every game.

I won't defend Bynum as it was a classless move, but it was clearly a show of frustration. What does that have to do with the quality of the NBA as a whole? I'd like your thoughts Walt.
