NEW YORK — Commissioner David Stern says his "gut" tells him there will be no NBA basketball on Christmas without a labor deal by Tuesday.

Owners and players are to meet with a federal mediator that day. Owners are then scheduled to meet for board meetings Wednesday and Thursday.

Stern tells New York radio station WFAN that without an agreement Tuesday to bring to the owners "we potentially spiral into situations where the worsening offers on both sides make it even harder for the parties to make a deal."

Christmas is traditionally the first big day of the NBA season. This year features the Chicago Bulls at the Los Angeles Lakers and an NBA finals rematch between the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat

True, but I don't think there will be NBA games starting by Xmas this year.

I don't know if it's another scare tactic by NBA Commissioner David Stern, but he wasn't bluffing when he cancelled the first 2 weeks of the regular season when negotiations stalled after some 13 hours Sunday night & Monday. Something tells me that these won't be the first games wiped out by the nagging lockout, even as the two sides will meet Monday and Tuesday with federal negotiator George Cohen in New York. I hope the Christmas Day twinbill on ABC isn't cancelled, but if it is, you do start to wonder if there will be ANY basketball at all this 2011-12 season.

If the proposal David Stern put on the table went to a vote today 80%+ of the league would sign off on it.

I don't know if they will play by Christas Day, but I thought there would be no season, now I am thinking they will get something done.

Just seen on ESPN, Billy Hunter said if there is no season, some teams won't be around next year.

I'm sure Bagels is at church right now praying for the Hawks.

I saw that as well over the weekend, Reents. While there are big market teams such as the Bulls, Knicks, Lakers, Celtics and Mavericks who would prefer playing basketball, there are a bunch of others such as the Pacers, Bobcats & Hornets who are really struggling to make ends meet financially. If there's no NBA basketball this season, those are a few of the teams that Billy Hunter thinks might go belly up and completely disappear from the league.

This may not sit well with some, but here's one thing that I wish would go away. Even though ESPN & ABC have more than a passing interest in it, does anyone really care about the WNBA? I don't...

Well tommorow is the big day, don't if it means anything that they met with the mediator today and we haven't heard anything.

Since Shark put about the teams trying to make it financially and put the Pacers, I will just say since that Indiana's big NBA team from people I hear, they all pretty much stopped caring about them when Reggie Miller retired and I would agree with them.

Pacers never replaced him, the star right now is Danny Granger and he may be a top 20 player, but that's it, before all this stuff they made a trade to get George Hill and there hoping that brings people in because he went to IUPUI.

Good

This means X-mas dinner will happen on time this year so I don't miss kickoff of the Bears/Packers.
