Mets give Brandon Nimmo $160m. Cohen may be running a very specific type of charity.

I thought it was goofy when people were saying he would get $100 million.

going on 30, played in more than 100 games twice, double digit HR only twice, doesn't steal bases...enjoy your OBP championship

Hal Steinbrenner panicked worrying about the fans. Max Kellerman correctly called what they've done in the last year a "stupid tax". Can't say that I disagree.

30 years old.. 9 years at 40 per.. The second half of the contract has the potential to be an absolute disaster.

It seems like MLB has turned into the NHL. They don't care about stretching out the length of the contract if it means lowering the AAV.

MLB is in the era of overpaying free agents to build "super teams". Sox are definitely on the sidelines. Cubs say they're going to be actively participating in free agency but only "intelligently". Where will the Cubs & Sox be in 5 years from now when the dust settles of getting shut out on top free agents and poor talent evaluation? It's very possible still mediocre.

They just treat it like deferred money, and if they have to DFA the guy with three years left, so be it.

Crazy money is being handed out. Organizations like the Reds and Pirates might as well be in the minors. Feel sorry for their fam base

We might be saying the same thing here, but I had read that teams are intentionally stretching out the years to lower the AAV in order to stay under the luxury tax.

It is, but he might win a Cy Young and he will probably start at least 5 playoff games, and maybe more like 15.

Correa got more than twice as much money. Jim Memolo and one of his partners (Jeff Joyce) were on XM89, and Joyce asked the question: Can you really give a position player $350M if he is obviously never going to win an MVP?

I heard Buster Olney speculating the other day that this frenzy might have something to do with it being the first offseason after a labor agreement. It seems a little more permanent than that.

Of course it is. Last year's free agents are pissed. Ohtani's deal is going to be for $60M a year.

Great signing, he won't stay healthy but I'd bet he starts over 100 games in the regular season and over 10 playoff games.

8/500. Now there may be clauses about what happens if he gets injured and has to stop pitching. But his contract will start with a 5.

Yeah I thought he would get 7/175. But it seems like he really wanted to pitch in New York.

If it was proven he was healthy the Sox should have made the PR move to bring him back for that contract.

I don't know. For Olney's theory to be true, things would have to slow down next year, and keep getting slower as we get closer to the end of the current CBA. I don't see that happening.
