against the cards last night, brewers kept getting clutch 2 out base hits while the cardinals couldn't. got to give credit to the brewers, they are the '27 yankees without being the '27 yankees. 2 out of 3 in tough san diego with no hader and last night, hader was off a bit - allowing 2 base runners, but got 2 pop ups to end the game.

cards need flaherty to get back asap. need a boost. tyler o'neill is having a flop season.

the mets are the phillies' bogey team...wheeler looked average after shutting down the braves and padres. harper with 1 rbi in the series. the mets' bassitt pitched well after getting rocked by the giants and cards in his last 2 starts. the phillies have a better hitting club, on paper, of course. thought the mets were primed for a mini-slump after getting spanked by the giants in the last 2 games of their last series. nothing better for the mets than seeing the phillies. the amazing mets. they are successfully killing time until mad max comes back.

joe maddon and his club had a nightmare home series against the blue jays. blue jays sweep a 4 gamer in orange county...joe's angels have lost 5 in row. the angels with 10 runs today and trout did nothing in 5 ABs.

the red sox have been smashing the ball around and get the reds in boston for their next series. the bosox picked up 2 games on the yankees this week.

cubbies with milwaukee and st louis, could be a 2-7 or a 3-6 week.

both the cubs and brewers starting pitchers in game 1 are having their MLB debuts. the cubs' starter, swarmer, is 28..a career minor-leaguer since 2016. the brewers' starter, small, was talked about on mlb radio. he is 25 and has had 3 years in the minors. once it was agreed upon that burnes is the top starting pitcher in baseball today, they added small to the mix of the pitching rich brewers. they said he has a very good arm, but, he has had control issues in the minors.

does this mean that the cubs will take some pitches as some type of batting focus today? the cubbies reminded me of peter sellers from 'being there', during the sox series.

It's remarkable how horrid the ex-Cubs have been:

Schwarber hitting .181
Rizzo hitting .213 (though he does have several short-porch homers in Yankee stadium)
Bryant ZERO homers
Baez hitting .194, OBP .237 (!), 3 HR
Castellanos -0.1 WAR

played the under (10) in cleveland x kc. 1 unit. my take is that ramirez/naylor are the only guys i fear on cleveland and kc is kc. may take the over in bosox, maybe a small play on tampa, small play on the braves (make sure acuna plays) and maybe a small play on the dodgers. pitt played them tough 2 weeks ago. some of these odds are ridiculous. you can go 4-2 and be down 5 units.

took the cubbies (+15) and tigers (+40) today. no buxton and correa (covid) in minny lineup, easy to play detroit at home....i also believe that detroit will go on a mini run at home. they are way overdue to score runs.

prob play the dodger game because it will be on mlb network and by 9, the food is over.

watched the pirates battle the dodgers and i couldn't help think of the hapless cubs. the pirates have played the dodgers tough all year, last night was no different - a 4-0 lead into the middle innings. the dodgers chipped away until it was 4-3 in the 8th. trea turner led off with a single and insanely attempted to stretch his hit into a double. the relay beat him by 10 feet, but the pirates' castillo couldn't catch the good relay throw from the left fielder - safe. he might as well had a cub uniform on. with 2 outs, justin turner drove him in for the tie, and more 2 out hits put the dodgers in front, 5-4.

man, did the dodger broadcast team rip into the pirates. this is what loser teams do. this is how they lose, exactly how the cubs lost game 1 to the brewers yesterday. they were right and i thought of how sad a club the cubs are.

long story short - the pirates fought back and won the game off kimbrel in the top of the 9th. great comeback - against a top club at home, after the bottom of the 8th gut-punch and self-destruction.

Flipped on the end of LA vs Pitt. Kimbrel blew it. Era up to 4.80. Last 7 games 9.95. He doesn't have a history of turning it around into the season. He only gets worse.

girardi's last season at $3 million...he's got to go. pull the plug now. the $169 million dollar payroll phillies are in a shambles. 12 1/2 games behind the mets, the pirates have a better percentage and will equal the phillies' 21 wins if they hold on against the dodgers tonight.

tonight, jean segura, a talent who seems more interested in his coiffures than refining his talent, fractured his finger when he tried to bunt. rule of thumb is to let ball hit bat, not finger. joe has put himself into a trick-bag with his 'no reliever pitches 3 days in a row' rule. he pitched domiguez 1 pitch, the next day 12 pitches. the 3rd day, 'no use' domiguez was relaxing in the bullpen while bellatti got crushed by the giants in extra innings yesterday.

tonight, domiguez was the only effective phillie reliever at 1 2/3 innings, no hits/no walks/2 Ks/no runs and bellatti was taken 415 feet by joc pederson in the 11th. phillies lose again.

a few weeks ago we saw servais embarrass himself against the red sox. rookie starter george kirby came out to warm-up prior to starting the bottom of the 6th. after his last warm-up toss, servais came out to pull kirby in favor of reliever sergio romo. kirby leaves for the dugout, romo comes out. the umpires stepped in and told servais he was in violation of a rule and that kirby must come back out of the dugout and face one batter.

the rule:

Quote:
Rule 5.10 (h) (i) - If a pitcher who is already in the game crosses the foul line on his way to take his place on the pitcher’s plate to start an inning, he shall pitch to the first batter until such batter is put out or reaches first base, unless the batter is substituted for, or the pitcher sustains an injury or illness which, in the judgment of the umpire-in-chief, incapacitates him from pitching. If the pitcher ends the previous inning on base or at bat and does not return to the dugout after the inning is completed, the pitcher is not required to pitch to the first batter of the inning until he makes contact with the pitcher’s plate to begin his warm-up pitches.

kirby came back out, threw one pitch for a double and then was pulled. red sox hammer seattle 12-6.

you're correct, seattle has been disappointing. loads of hitting talent, fairly decent starting pitching, but their bullpen is crap. overall, their payroll is less than half of the phillies. servais is in the same line as girardi, just further back. since girardi is a friend of mlb radio network, they were giving him a pass this morning. their defense is shit, familia was late covering first..etc...etc...etc...no one's fault. certainly not joe's.

the angels have hurt me this year. i want to say i took them 3 times late last week at home against the blue jays. joe maddon's club got swept in a 4-game series. a few games their defense collapsed, but that great offense goes to sleep at times; 3-4 game stretches where they don't hit. teams like oakland and texas shutting them down. walsh got hurt, now rendon is hurt.

gone. the way the phillies were losing games this year - you knew that mgnt. had to be considering relieving him. they made that decision today.

Jim Kaat is in hot water again, this time for calling Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes "Nestor the Molestor"

He was ripped last year for saying teams should try to "get a 40-acre field full of" players who look like White Sox infielder Yoan Moncada (which was not only racially offensive to some people, but in retrospect was baseball-offensive considering Moncada is a bust).

observer, i called for this tuesday night and the phillies fired him friday morning. i want credit. i noticed this place is basically a closed club - you need to stop patronizing and ingratiating yourself to those that will reject you. if you give me credit, i'll exclusively post in nba threads that you have started.

p.s. - i also remember responding to one of your think tank hypothesis, and you ignored it. never mind.

That was fascinating. Such a small thing can tip pitches.

As Harry would say, "Funny game, aint it?"

The Brewers went on a long tough 11 game trip and went 6-5.

They came home and went 1-6 against inferior-ass competition. Swept by the Phillies.

Back out on the road for a 9 game trip and have lost the first 2 to Washington.

Lost 8 in a row in other words.

Is Counsell getting fired? Of course not. It's just the ebbs and flows of a long season. Thats why i love it.
