Boog Sciambi talked with P&S yesterday about the automated strike zone. He mentioned a couple points I hadn't heard previously.

1. There are 12 cameras/sensors in each stadium that will determine whether a pitch is within the 3-dimensional zone.
2. For width, the zone is home plate plus an inch "buffer" on either side (so the zone essentially becomes two inches wider by including the "black").
3. For height, this is where it gets interesting. Every player will have a database of measurements based on their load batting position. The system will use the average of the most recent 50 plate appearances (or swings, I can't remember) and it will be a rolling average. So yes, Jose Altuve will have a different zone than Aaron Judge...but a player won't really be able to game the system by crouching.

He didn't say how the strikes and balls will be called by the home plate ump (I assume the ump will get an instant indication in an earpiece and then make his usual gesture).

They got 4 runs off the stopper Clay Holmes. It ballooned his ERA from 0.47 to 1.37. Dude has been unhittable this year and the fuckin reds got him.
