interesting. it felt like he and Schwarber didnt get along but maybe it was just tough love from Lester. That's a good move for him. He can be a solid #5 in that rotation or come out of the pen.

We'll be fine. Pitching was more important.

why would they do that?

DH assures the union of 15 more high paid jobs. The opposite of no DH is a utility player

they're saving that as a negotiating chip for the upcoming CBA

tommy lastella ex cub a Giant now. Good move for him. He's perfect for that ballpark

He is a good fit there. Ignoring the buyout amount on Longoria, 3am is now the only Giant guaranteed money in 2023. They are really well positioned both for the new CBA and for when the Padres eventually hit the end of their window.

It appears they want the DH but not tied to expanded playoffs. Players correctly assume MLB wants expanded playoffs to make money back on the games they will find a way to cancel this season on the front end.

So stupid.

I'm a meatball Sox fan, and I have the solution for MLB this season;

-Shorten season to 150 or so games
-Schedule extra off days each month to accommodate makeup games due to covid/weather
-7 inning double headers is fine if need be
-15 Day IL, 7 day for concussion protocol only
-35 man roster, with 25 active on gameday. This allows to carry extra pitchers, a 3rd catcher, and eliminates the need for the stupid 7 day IL
-If someone pops for Covid, you have 2 days to complete testing and add people to the 35 man from the taxi squad to fill your team. Games after the second day are either played or forfeited and only PPD due to weather
-3 division winners and 2 wild cards from each league. If the want to have the WC teams play a 3 game series, thats fine.

STFU and play ball. NHL and NBA are dealing with this for the second time. NFL cancelled 0 games this year. Get it the fuck done.

I would only add that unless there is a covid quarantine, you shouldn't be able to move more than two players who pitched the game before from the active 25 to the inactive 10. If you want to move more than two, some have to go on the IL or get optioned out to AAA.

well said. Agree completely. It is ridiculous that other professional sports are getting things done and the one sport that has the least contact and opportunity for spread is causing the most trouble. Baseball just cannot get out of its own way. So stupid

Which owners are primarily pushing this delay now and likely strike/lockout shortened 2022?

If I had to venture a guess, the entire NL Central, a team like the Giants who had only $5M on the books for 2023 before signing LaStella this week, probably declining teams not receiving revenue sharing such as Houston and maybe Minnesota. Maybe the Red Sox.

After seven seasons with the New York Yankees, Masahiro Tanaka is returning home.

The Rakuten Eagles, the team Tanaka spent his first seven professional seasons with, announced on Thursday that they’ve signed the the right-handed pitcher to a contract. They announced the signing with a “Welcome Home our Hero” graphic, a call back to Tanaka’s major role in leading Rakuten to its first Japan Series title in 2013.
