Unless you consider Jim Callis and Baseball America as part of the Cardinal apparatus, I'd say most of the hype was created outside of the organization. Shelby Miller was highly touted (and Tyrell Jenkins, for that matter) but both were deemed expendable and shipped to Atlanta for Heyward. I'm not suggesting you are flat-out wrong in your observation; i am suggesting that management and media may portray prospects in 2 different fashions. Do you think it helps Russell and Bryant in the early stages of their careers to be scrutinized as they have by the Chicago media? They are both too talented to not turn out to be legit MLB players, but personally I don't think it helps.

Jaime Garcia isn't "some random sixth starter". He'll be back before June and might do better than Waino would have. It's The Cardinal Way.

Anyway, it depends on "run support".

Exactly. Wainright his hurt every year. And they keep on going.

He's made 32 starts at least the last 5 years

I agree though, Cards will bring someone up who is good.

Sucks about Wainwright. Im a big fan of his (which can be difficult considering the uniform he wears)

Saying Cubbies. Bad. Rooting for the rival. Good.

Fanbase would probably never accept Cueto.

During the scrum, Cueto and Carpenter were pinned against the screen... Cueto tried to kick his way out, landing one on the head of Yadier caddie Jason Larue... he suffered a career ending concussion, basically because Johnny Cueto is unable to fight like a man.

ok then, i'd say zimmerman is a solid #2 on that list. if the nats continue their 7-13 spiral to nowhere (please god? PLEASE?!?!?!) then zimmerman will become expendable because they're sitting on roark. if they're in it maybe you can go for roark cuz they'll prolly need an offensive piece or two because i guess it's up to ian desmond to save the universe. either way i just hope that it all works out shitty for the nationals because seriously fuck the fighting walgreens! zombie baseball!

This seems really odd. Extreme fatigue in the first part of May???

Quote:
St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter will miss this weekend's series against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to "extreme fatigue," according to MLB.com writer Jenifer Langosch.

Carpenter did not make the trip to Pittsburgh, according to Langosch. He sat out Thursday's game against the Chicago Cubs and left last Sunday's game early due to lightheadedness.

There has to be something else going on...he's played through full season before, playing pretty much every day...to all of a sudden not be able to handle the day in-day out nature of the grind that is MLB...ugh...

I'm not even joking... sounds like anxiety. He loves the gym, bp and all that, but like Eaton, he might be a bit high-strung and doesn't know how to slow down. I'm hoping it isn;t something more long-term serious like a thyroid condition

I don't think it's coincidence that [this happens while] we're right in the middle of a 20-game stretch. I don't think it's a coincidence that the intensity of the types of games we've been playing or a coincidence [that this is a] guy who just does not back off. It's full throttle all the time. We love how he goes about the game, but obviously there is a price to pay. It's a hard pace to keep up. He's been pushing and pushing and pushing just like a lot of these guys.

Marp is the definition of a grinder. Last two seasons, Marp has appeared in 157 and 158 games respectively.

St. Louis Cardinals

@Cardinals

#STLCards vs. Detroit (5/16):
Grichuk RF
Carpenter 3B
Holliday LF
Peralta SS
Reynolds 1B
Molina C
Wong 2B
Bourjos CF
Lyons LHP
10:30 AM - 16 May 2015

Heyward in the 8 hole last night v. a RHP... and now Grit Check in the lineup (and leading off, no less) against David Price.

...maybe Magic Mike is trying to devalue JHey into getting the comp pick or him taking the QO on a "make-good" season... Nah, Mike isn't that smart

I found yesterday's lineup exceptionally hilarious, given how I had just read a few days prior that the Cards had finally found their leadoff man in Bourjos...

Post subject:  Re: Saint Louis Cardinals

I think Jay/Bourjos is the guy this year. Wong seems to hit better lower in the order, and he doesn't walk enough... I like Wong around 6-7. Maybe Holliday and his .449 OBP should lead off... but then Al and Ricky couldn't blab on about his RISP numbers

On a side note, I posted this somewhere else, but I thinkI stumbled upon Frank over at FG

 I quit trying to disseminate Magic Mike's lineup card a while ago.

Here's today's lineup!

@Cardinals: #STLCards vs. Detroit (5/17):
Heyward RF
Carpenter 3B
Holliday LF
Peralta SS
Adams 1B
Molina C
Wong 2B
Bourjos CF
Lynn RHP

I can't even... just run the best 8 players out there, in a random order. It doesn't matter much, but I'm beyond trying to figure out the rationale

Holy fuck run Carpenter back out there in the 1 hole if we have Heyward leading off...

...before this year is over, we'll see Kozma lead off at some point.
