Just thinking over the past decade or so on both sides of town. Not talking about guys like Josh Vitters that looked promising prior the the big show, these are guys that made it and then sucked.

South Side: Beckham I think deserves the honor. Only played in 103 games his first year, but hit a respectable .270 with 14 HR. You thought that this is the kind of thing he'll improve on in the next year. Never hits close to that again for the Sox; his last couple of stints end up in .221 and .209 territory. Of course, he is now hitting .308 with the Braves (but 0 HR.)

North Side: Theriot plays 53 games and just 159 ABs, but hits .328 and is goes 13/15 on stolen bases. He can play any infield position; maybe we have something here! Next three years the average declines and he starts becoming average to mediocre on the base paths. No pop in the bat either.

Walton and Soto have got to be right at the top of the list.

Both were rookies of the year on teams that went to the playoffs. At least Soto has had a career though. Walton fell off the face of the earth.

And let's not forget Kevin Maas. That guy was going to hit 500 hr's.

I believe Walton still owns the Cubs longest game hitting streak.

I just remember him years later scoring a game winning run for Cinci when he was 30 on Sportscenter SVP gave him a "Jerome Walton comes in to score the Winning run...JEROME WALTON? Where the hell has this guy been ?"

Back to topic....

Micah Hoffcanthitfastballpower !!!!!

You see so many guys come out of the minors and cant hit the junk or need to adjust to it. Baez, Soler...90% of rookies, maybe more. This guy could hit the junk, he couldnt turn on 90+!!! Which every MLB pitcher can throw!!! One of the few guys I have ever seen that had the hole in his swing as 94 right down the middle!!!!!

Not that I expected him to be some power hitting 1B, but a guy that could hit at the MLB level and not go 3 fastballs and out.

McDonald was quite the college phenom at LSU wasn't he? I'm sure the Orioles thought they struck gold with that pick.

And speaking of pitchers, remember the hype surrounding Todd Van Poppel? I remember people were pissed about him "falling" in the draft only to be selected by the then powerhouse A's.

That would be the 300 avg/ 30 HR in one season hitting Rick Wilkins.

Prior is up there no doubt. The second coming of Tom Seaver everyone said.

Regarding Wood, weren't we all waiting for the inevitable arm problems?

Yea, he had a longer run than I remembered, but still, he looked primed to be a super star
