Agreed. About a month ago I was at a game with a Sox decision maker and he told me he saw Faedo and he was a "fuckin mess." I hope they listen to him this time. They didn't listen to him the last time they took a pitcher from the SEC.

It should be Haseley or Smith if available for the Sox. I can see them going in that order, too. Addell if necessary, though I'd rather have the first two. Smith really hits on their recent draft strategy of putting the bat on the ball, too. I just don't think he'll be there.

I don't want anything to do with Kendall.

Faedo sitting 92-94 working some deep counts in the 1st. The dude's got nasty shit but I don't like the delivery. Inverted with lots of effort. Fastball command is going to be an issue for him.

I don't know how to answer that. I think they're hoping and praying one of the college bats gets to them.

Any changes in your thoughts? Are they looking for a kid who'll be in the majors in the next year or so or will they take someone who is 3 years away?

I think they're still on college hitters. Jerry wants to see him in the big leagues before he dies. I would love to see them get a HS hitter like Jo Adell or Austin Beck but I don't think they will go down that road. They'll go with a college pitcher if the three college hitters are gone. I'm starting to think they end up with Kendall.

This is my ultimate nightmare. I doubt any college player has struck out that much and been a successful MLB'er.

He has struck out like 190 times in 170 games.

But he has tantalizing tools. He hits for power, he runs, he throws and he plays defense. If he develops the hit tool he's a super star.

how many players have ever learned how to not strike out?

Post subject:  Re: 2017 MLB Draft

He's going to strike out. The question is if you think he can get them down to a more manageable number without sacrificing too much of the power.

Bukauskas is getting hammered tonight by Davidson. His stuff is fading down the stretch. I'm surprised he made it thru the entire season. Wouldn't touch that guy with a 10' pole.

Mackenzie Gore throwing the shit out of it again tonight. That little shit may end up going top 3. Sheesh

RHP Joe Perez (Archbishop McCarthy HS) needs Tommy John surgery. He was up to 99 mph this spring. Tough break.

I think they're taking Kendall. Evan White could be a possibility too. I would be surprised if they took Hiura.

Keyser,

I know in the thread you spoke with a Sox decision maker. Any sense of which GM(Kenny vs Hahn) is leading this draft?

Author:  Keyser Soze [ Tue Jun 06, 2017 11:22 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: 2017 MLB Draft

Nick Hostetler is leading the draft. There's an old saying that the GM has the first pick but I don't think that has been the case with the Sox because Hahn doesn't have a scouting background. The first pick will be a consensus then Nick will take over from there. Just hope the consensus gets it right this time.

That couldn't possibly be Francis Parker in Chicago, could it?

No, southern cal. Allen is a midget who can really play. It will be interesting to see where he goes.?

News has surfaced that Oregon St LHP Luke Heimlich is a registered sex offender. What an ugly story. The felony crime was committed when he was 15 years old. I'm not sure how he was able to pitch for the team for so long. Heimlich led the nation with a 0.76 ERA and was expected to be a 2nd round pick on Monday's draft. Teams have commented that they have dropped him off their draft boards.

He obviously doesn't need grass on the field to play ball since he committed when he was 15....

UCLA RHP Griffin Canning has a red flag on his MRI and teams are dropping him down their boards. Canning was considered a mid-first round pick.

Watching Louisville vs, Kentucky must be a scout's dream. Pros everywhere.

And next year, Josh Stowers will have make some real money imo.

Keyser,

I know this is against conventional wisdom and I know it's been a long year, but there's something I don't like about McKay on the mound, certainly not with a near top of the draft pick. How wrong am I?

Or a scouts nightmare. Too many guys to watch.

Stowers looks like a different player. He's playing with a lot of confidence. Keep on eye on Tristan Pompey on Kentucky. He's gonna be a dude next year.

I get what you're saying. He's not flashy like a Kershaw or Bumgarner. He's more like Quintana. The fastball, curve and change are all plus with plus command. Add in a clean easy delivery with some deception and you get a lot of ugly swings. If I were the Twins I would go with Greene or Wright because they both have higher ceilings but I could see why they would go with the high floor of McKay. He's going to be a damn good pitcher for a long time.

I really like watching Kentucky play. I love Riley Mahan, the kid hustles his ass off.

Stowers is the fastest player I've ever seen on an amateur diamond
