I have no use for football at the moment, but I just wouldn't think that an NLCS game (the freakin CUBS, nonetheless) doubling a shitty team on Thursday night is all that impressive. They should have crushed them.

I'm not sure this is even that impressive. I'm sure the Bulls being on the doorstep of the NBA finals would have gotten higher ratings than the Bears who are as bad as they have been in a decade.

For comparison, 1.43 million homes in Chicago watched the last Hawks Stanley Cup clinching game.

It is impressive. All we've heard is that nothing can beat football in the ratings. Obviously, it's taken a lot to do it, but the Bears finally have to take the backseat they've long since earned. Frankly, I'm surprised the game even got a 12 here.

Nationally It's unbeatable. Locally there are events that beat it. In sure Cleveland had more fans watching the Cavs than a regular season Browns game too.

Baseball is clearly on the upswing, and the outlook on the NFL is neutral at best. If MLB could speed these damn playoff games up a little bit, it would help immensely. Even without an active rooting interest in these playoffs, every single game-- except for the first Jays Rangers game in the ALDS-- has been awesome to watch.

It's no commitment to watch something on TV. And that's the entire basis of football's supposed popularity. If a better TV show is on some of those "fans" will watch that instead. And it's not so much that I care but rather that the truth is obvious. People like planning a fall Sunday around Bears on TV. They're emotionally attached to the Cubs.

Many Cub fans on here admitted they stopped watching from 2011-2014 or whatever. Same thing is going on with the Bears now. In general, baseball fans aren't any more emotionally invested than any other fan base.

That's a generalization. Baseball fans are often just as lazy as any other sport's fans. Additionally, it's a city-centric view. Much of the popularity of these sports is from people in the suburbs or even farther. I'm not going to say that someone who lives in Peoria but doesn't attend a bunch of games isn't a real "fan."
