Post subject:  Top 50 Most Valuable Players
According to Jonah Keri. Taking into consideration age, contract, talent, etc.

10. Trea Turner
9. Nolan Arenado
8. Anthony Rizzo
7. Noah Syndergaard
6. Mookie Betts
5. Carlos Correa
4. Francisco Lindor

Altuve and Trout are ranked too low. Trout should be number 1. Rodon, Rizzo, and Correa are ranked too high, IMO.

Altuve and Trout are ranked too low. Trout should be number 1. Rodon, Rizzo, and Correa are ranked too high, IMO.


Any list where Trout isn't a clear cut 1 is a bad lists.

Also a Kershaw omission. Even at a market value, an incredible valuable asset.

Seager and Bryant are incredibly valuable, because they are pre-arb. But the testament to Trout's trade value, is that he is basically untradeable, because there is no team that could give a fair value for him... short of trading your entire minor league apparatus, which isn't possible

Yeah, I think sometimes writers try to get too cute with this stuff because it's boring saying someone like Trout or LeBron is clearly the best and most valuable player in the sport year in and year out.

Trout will make 19 million this year, 33 million the following three years. He's great but most guys on that list are making chump change compared to his salary.

That's an incredibly simplistic view of it. You're assuming whichever GM takes Trout in this fantasy scenario will screw up as bad as Anaheim's front office has around him. Similarly, you're assuming whoever takes the more "valuable" Bryant or Seager will smartly supplement them with other very good, valuable players. Like I said, you're getting too cute with this. Just take who clearly is the best player in the sport. That's Trout. And he's in his prime with a reasonable contract.
