Teams have until Monday to offer their pending free agents a qualifying offer. The system has been changed and somehow they made it more complicated. This years QO will be worth 1yr/$17.4M. Teams losing the free agent will receive a 2nd or 3rd round pick depending on if they received revenue sharing and if the free agent signs for more than $50M guaranteed. Teams signing the free agent are at risk of losing a 2nd to 5th round pick also depending on if they received revenue sharing. Here's a list of players who could be offered a QO:

Eric Hosmer (lock)
Mike Moustakis (lock)
Lorenzo Cain (lock)
Jake Arrieta (lock)
Wade Davis (lock)
Lance Lynn (lock)
Greg Holland (lock)
Carlos Santana (lock)
Masahiro Tanaka (lock if he amazingly opts out)
Alex Cobb (risky but I think the Rays will offer QO)
Zach Cozart (risky because if they offer he will most likely accept)

Players involved in mid-season trades are not eligibe for a QO: JD Martinez, Yu Darvish, Jay Bruce

How much do you think Cobb gets as a FA?

Holland is a lock. He’ll get a multi year deal at $10-$12.5 per. Cobb will most likely get the same. Cozart is a tough one. It’s a bad market for SS and he’s 32 though he’s coming off a good year. I think they get greedy and offer him

Masahiro Tanaka decided not to opt out of his contract. He'll remain with the Yankees and will receive his 3yr/$67M

Coming off his worst season and pitching thru a partial tear in his UCL it's incredible this was even a consideration.

I dunno, maybe 3-30 million.. Kind of a one year wonder at 30 years old eh?

The Yanks should be concerned, he's pretty much saying he doesn't trust his elbow going forward. I could see NY landing Jake.

Tanaka is damaged goods. No one was going to sign him for more than 3yr/$67M.

I think the Rangers sign Arrieta.

I think the Rangers are the front runner for Jake, but I can see the Braves take a run at him if they believe they can win the NL East after Harper leaves DC.

Hosmer, Cain and Moose offered QO’s. Cozart is not. That one surprises me. He’s coming off a big season and Reds will get nothing if he signs with someone else. They’ll end up regretting this one.

So it surprises you that the Reds are not doing something that 3 days ago you deemed risky?

Jake Arrieta is a big name who will get too much money and never come close to justifying it, so he's definitely going to the Rangers.

Lance Lynn, Carlos Santana and Alex Cobb were offered a QO.

Love to see the Cubs get Lynn, Cleveland should move on from Santana.. First basemen gotta knock in a hundo and hit at least .280

Jake Arrieta, Wade Davis and a Greg Holland received a QO.

That makes 9 players receiving a QO. I don’t think any will accept.

Anthony Rizzo is a .268 career hitter.

All 9 players officially rejected the Qualifying Offers.

No surprises there.
